What time does your ten year old go to bed?

Interested to hear what sort of pre bedtime routines they have...or not.

My 10 year old is a NIGHTMARE at bedtime. We're in Oz and it's the summer holidays here. Naturally she wants to stay up later but it's getting silly now.

DH thinks it's because she has no routine. She did when she was smaller but it slipped as she grew. He thinks if she has a shower at the same time nightly, then some time to read in bed, she;ll be better because she knows what's coming.

Why is 7:30 bonkers?

She’s tired. She goes to sleep. She has to be woken at 6:50am on a school day and sleeps to about 7:15 at the weekend. She can stay up for activities when needed but doesn’t cope if it’s every day. However I do know she needs more sleep than most. On residential school trips she struggles a bit.

We start the bedtime routine at 8:30. DS thinks that's too early, but he messes around so much and takes so long in the bathroom (just sitting on the loo telling stories) that it's much later by time he's washed his hands, brushed teeth, got pyjamas on, read for ten minutes...

He could go upstairs later if he spent less time faffing, but if I've explained this once, I've explained a million times...
