I've just returned to work after maternity leave. IT seem to have imploded whilst I've been away (coincidentally - nothing to do with me) and nothing works properly.

Every time I call them to tell them about an issue it's 'oh, it shouldn't do...'

I know more about IT that the bloody useless technician and I'm practically a dinosaur in IT terms.

Aaaarrrrgh!!!

Frankly it says more about Cherries that they could forget all of their training after a year. If they have any of course. Obviously still got a gift for invective though.

Well, if you’re coming here huffing that she’s ‘bloody useless’ and you know more than her about IT (your words) part of that may be coming across in your attitude towards her no matter how polite and professional you think you’re being. And your solution isn’t really a solution if the problem recurred, it was a temporary fix. She may now need to explore other possible actual solutions and maybe that is a bit more involved and takes a bit longer than you realize.

The issue is software that shouldn’t be on my machine. The prior technician removed it as it wasn’t required. Didn’t document it so someone installed it in my absence.

The fix is to remove it. It’s not a temporary fix. It’s THE fix.

Be grateful you even have an IT Helpdesk. Plenty of organisations don’t have one you can contact directly except for onboarding."

Yeah OP, be grateful for your useless IT helpdesk that doesn't actually help and just blows you off. 🤣
