To buy glasses to make my DD happy?

She’s 3.5 and has a couple of conditions which means she goes through so much every single day, she’s in pain with her legs and hips, has regular blood tests, injections and xrays. She also takes daily medication and is regularly on Antibiotics. She also has 2 homes, and struggles with how unsettling that is.

She has an eye condition which doesn’t cause vision problems. But she is desperate for a pair of glasses. NHS won’t give her any due to no vision problem, which is of course right. But everytime we go to see the Eye Consultant she begs him to give her a pair of glasses as she wants some. She has sunglasses but they’re not the same and she’s desperate for proper glasses.

WIBU to contact somewhere like specsavers and see if they can give me a pair of frames with clear glass in? I’ll be happy to pay for this. Her eye consultant says it won’t harm her in any way if she wears glasses with fake/clear lenses so I know it won’t hurt.

Or do I just need to tell her to deal with not wearing them?

Extra Info: I do feel terribly guilty for her conditions as I blame myself, but she is such a happy child and never asks for anything in terms of toys or anything - she asked Santa for glasses but didn't get any. She’s described as happy and polite at Nursery and her Nursery tell me she is always the last child to do anything i.e. go on the slide she’ll let all the others go first and is patient waiting her turn. Which is lovely considering what she goes through daily.

Further Info: Her desperation for glasses is probably because both me and her dad plus all 4 grandparents wear glasses so she sees me/her/grandparents wearing them and just wants to be like us. Not sure if this is relevant.

Dd2 has used fake glasses from Claires too. She loved them, but it did mean she got questioned when she decided to stop using it!

It’s no different to buying her a firefighters or builders helmet to dress up in imo. Toddlers love to try out different looks and play at being like Mum, Dad, an optician, a digger driver etc. It’s their way of learning about people who are part of their lives and wider community.
