£200 week rent - Sheltered accommodation

My Mum has just moved into Sheltered accommodation after leaving her council house. She has to much savings to claim pension credit or housing Benefit I suspect council tax to. I found out today she pays £200 a week for her tiny 1 bed flat! This seems a lot. What do you think?

Depends where located in country and wants included. Nursing homes can be £1000 or more per week so £200 is cheap

Shock at pulling the emergency cord for a cuppa Hmm

It’s really expensive if it’s just sheltered accommodation.
Is it a housing association or private company?

Ultramic · 21/01/2019 15:09

Seems expensive. I charge less than that for renting my 3 bed townhouse in a prime location.

Booksandwine80 · 21/01/2019 15:37

There will be all sorts of costs included in that amount.

Lifts, tv aerials, communal cleaning, window cleaning, grounds maintenance, door entry, communal lighting....

It’s not just a flat. She’s paying for a service, a service which no longer gets and funding from the govern unfortunately.

Sounds as though you weren’t made aware of cost/facilities beforehand though.

Sounds about right to Me, for that she will get one wellness check a day and the 24/7 monitored pull cord for emergencies ( falls etc) There is also probably use of the communal laundry facilities
I would think council tax will be payable... it's worth remembering that anyone living alone with a severe mental impairment ( Alzheimer's, dementia, stroke etc) is exempt from council tax, a form needs to be completed by the GP, it's not an exemption councils tend to shout about!
Did she not pay rent on her council house??
