Hello ladies

Has anyone ordered from a website abroad ie China and had a good experience?

I really don't want to spend hundreds and thousands and I've seen some gorgeous dresses online.

But I've heard horror stories.

Has anyone used a website and they were happy with what arrived?

I woulnt get one from China, You have little redress. Sizing can be a nightmare

LongDiscoClara · 15/01/2019 16:13

No. I wouldn't buy from China. It's a nightmare if something goes wrong. I'd try a regular nice dress or head to your nearest Wed 2 Be shop where they have amazing discounted wedding dresses. I got my dress, underskirt and veil for £540.

Not sure I would trust any- heard too many horror stories. Maybe look for second hand instead or look for bridal or dress shops closing down. I found my dress on EBay for £30 from a dress shop closing- it was a cream formal dress rather than an official wedding dress. Also high street dresses can look amazing (some really nice ones on ASOS)

moreismore · 15/01/2019 16:14

I’ve never heard a good story about ordering online.
Have you tried a website like preloved? No idea what style you want but needle & thread dresses are incredibly beautiful and under £1k

LongDiscoClara · 15/01/2019 16:14

Ps the dresses you see online are from the actual wedding brands websites, not the dress you get.

Funnyface1 · 15/01/2019 16:15

No way would I risk something like that for my wedding dress.

ToothlessReg · 15/01/2019 16:18

No. Join any wedding forum and you’ll see many horror stories (and a few who were lucky).

Wed2B is cheaper, or find a sample sale at a bridal shop. I tried a beautiful designer dress in a sample sale, RRP £2200, sale price £350. That would have included cleaning and any repairs.

Didntwanttochangemyname · 15/01/2019 16:48

Don't do it, I got a bridesmaid dress from China and it was awful.

Beebee8 · 15/01/2019 16:52

I wouldn't risk it! I got a heavily discounted dress from my local bridal shop in their sale section and would definitely recommend this!

TakeMe2Insanity · 15/01/2019 16:57

My sil did it and was delighted. No way would I have done it as the quality was so different between mine and hers.

Finally I wouldn’t do it now simply because of the chinese policy to put the uyghurs in concentration camps. I am actively trying not to buy chinese at the moment and it is bloody hard so if you have an alternative take it.

AwkwardPaws27 · 15/01/2019 16:58

Have a look at high street ranges - for example, Monsoon have some lovely dresses. I got married in a Monsoon dress (it was meant to be a bridesmaid dress actually), which cost £170.

TakeMe2Insanity · 15/01/2019 16:59

Don’t forget OP theres the oxfam wedding dress boutiques. I went with a friend and they have beautiful pre loved dresses and you honestly couldn’t tell.

It’s a real gamble. I’ve seen lots of horror stories online, but have also had friends who ordered from aliexpress and were happy with their dresses. You’d have to pick a long established seller with honest reviews and photos from reviewers. And make sure you leave plenty of time in case things go wrong!

ASOS do a decent, affordable bridal range as an alternative. As do lots of high street shops. Even oxfam have bridal shops and sell dresses online! So there are many alternatives if you’re on a budget.

simplesalvage · 15/01/2019 17:01

I haven't ordered one from China online, however when I was on holiday in China I bought a made to order formal dress there - it was beautiful quality and really cheap. But that is probably to due with being there. I have had friends who have done the same in Thailand, Sri Lanka etc.

Huskylover1 · 15/01/2019 17:02

My daughter got her Prom dress from here, and I see that they do wedding dresses as well.

It was gorgeous and exactly as per the picture.

We did need to get some minor alterations, but given the huge sum saved on the dress, this was not an issue!

If you don't mind second-hand, you could try the Oxfam wedding dress site:
www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/bridal/wedding-dresses?pscid=ps_msn_Bing+-+Trading+-+OOS+-+Brand+-+Categories_brand_wedding_dresses_exact&gclid=COGY4-Oh8N8CFZWRhQode9AHbQ&gclsrc=ds

Some of them have never been worn (a friend of mine who called her wedding off gave them her wedding dress).

Bambamber · 15/01/2019 17:08

I ordered my wedding dress from China on eBay. It was a big gamble but I only paid 40 quid so I could afford for it to be crap. It was more of a bridesmaid style dress that i chose and it was exactly as pictured. I made sure I took my measurements so I could order the right size and the sizing was perfect. The material wasn't exactly luxurious, but I don't think you could tell and you do get what you pay for

BlackPrism · 15/01/2019 22:42

They'll turn up made out of cheap material and in a dolls size.

BlackPrism · 15/01/2019 22:42

ASOS do lovely ones for under £200/£100

mummyof2boys30 · 15/01/2019 22:46

If you are on a tight budget some of the bridesmaid suppliers make dresses in ivory. Tho most won't have train or anything.

anniehm · 15/01/2019 22:49

Go to oxfam (or other charity shops that have a formal/bridal dept) large branches in major cities or online. Even if not a perfect fit, so calculating in the cost of alterations it will be cheaper, and less impact on the environment. eBay is also an option but I would advise only dealing with a buyer whose willing for you to pay on collection once you check it out as some are still coming in from overseas. I've bought a couple of evening dresses from China, one was great, the other more like a kids dressing up costume quality wise, no good for a concert but as repurposed as fancy dress this year covered in fake blood!

PenCreed · 15/01/2019 22:52

I bought my dress online, but from a UK company (Kitty & Dulcie) and it was just about perfect. It would have needed alterations wherever it came from as I'm short! But a friend got hers from China and it was a disaster - badly made, wrong shape, dirty lace. She ended up having to go to a bridal shop days before her wedding and got one from there instead, luckily she's tall and it didn't need alteration!

TeddybearBaby · 15/01/2019 22:56

I got my daughter a really beautiful communion dress from Etsy. It was handmade in Thailand. Obvs it’s a lot more of a risk for a wedding dress though!
