To not eat fruit or drink smoothies?

Posting here for traffic. I will openly admit I'm weird with it but I don't eat fruit or raw vegetables.
I have vague memories of being force fed/made to eat them and even vomiting once when I had gag reflex after being told to not even dare spit it out when I was about 6.

I need advice.

I don't know why I don't like them, I have tried them and I eat a lot more vegetables than I used to but fruit are just a no go which is ridiculous considering I'm ok with fruit juice (but no bits).

I know that I really need to work on my diet and make sure I eat better and more balanced but I'm stumped as to how to do it. I can't eat fruit as it is, smoothies make me gag especially if there's an accidental unblended chunk in there and I can't think of any other way to make sure I get more into my diet.

In the past I have sometimes managed mini bottles of the innocent juices and mixes but I can't help but think there is not enough nutritional value in them?

AIBU to drink innocent juice and try multivitamins to balance my diet or am I just kidding myself?

Sometimes I don't eat any fruit. I drink juice and eat veg as you said, so don't see the relevance of eating whole fruits. You can get all your goodness from veg, fruit juice and other foods. You could try taking vitamins and drinking pre-bought smoothies as no lumps but don't think you need to eat fruit.

Some people eat no fruit or veg at all.

If you are eating a good range and quantity of vegetables every day, I wouldn't be that worried about forcing yourself to eat fruit.

Eating veg is fine if you don't want to eat fruit. I don't like the texture of smoothues

Pachyderm1 · 15/01/2019 12:06

Veg is much healthier than fruit anyway! Smoothies are usually high calorie and packed full of sugar, with the fibre benefits of whole fruits diminished.

As long as you’re eating vegetables I wouldn’t worry about the fruit. Fruit juice is fine for vitamins but again very sugary, so some is fine but not too much. A daily multivitamin would also help, and maybe put your mind at rest!

I find eating fruit a bit I’d a chore, but I love veg, so don’t worry too much about it.

I have found though that if I cut up small amounts of fruit, it’s much easier to eat. So I’ll put a few strawberries cut up with breakfast.
Just start with something you think you like, cut it into little pieces and don’t try to eat too much of it.

If you are getting your 8 a day and good variety of differed coloured veg then I don’t see the problem.

sadkoala · 15/01/2019 12:12

The thing is I only eat a limited amount of veg and won't eat any raw vegetables only boiled. So I can only assume the amount of nutrients I'm boiling away.

I can eat broccoli, green beans, peas, carrots, cauliflower, spinach with cream and garlic, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and peppers only if they're in a sauce and same goes for onions. Not much else really.

As PP have said, fruit are not as ‘healthy’ as veg so as long as you’re getting a wide variety, and enough of veg down (the rainbow thing is helpful to remember) it won’t matter if you don’t eat any fruit

Felicia3 · 15/01/2019 12:14

I don't eat fruit at all, the sugars give me migraines. I don't drink fruit juice or smoothies either. You can get vitamins from vegetables and failing that, vitamin supplements.

dun1urkin · 15/01/2019 12:14

X-post
Do you make your own eg pasta sauce? If you do you can make sure there’s lots of tomatoes and peppers in a nice pasta sauce

Megan2018 · 15/01/2019 12:15

I love veg but hate fruit and I am the same with fruit juice with bits.

Current pg though and craving apples! So I hope that lasts.

Fruit is not all it is cracked up to be - veg is more important I think.

Bluntness100 · 15/01/2019 12:16

It's fine, I seldom eat fruit and limited veg, just make sure to take a vitamin if you're worried,
