To worry about DC not being invited to birthday parties - I sort of know I am!!

My DC is five and in year one. They have a group of friends and I've never had any problems with their behaviour.
However I notice on the lovely Facebook that there have been two parties to which DC has not been invited. I'm not that bothered - but bothered enough to wonder whether I should be. The children whose parties it was are not close friends with my DC but all the other children are good friends with my DC.
Disclaimer: I had a shocking experience with DC1 and one school mum who ganged up on me about my job so I'm paranoid about making sure my children have as wide a social circle as possible.

Were they big parties where the whole class bar your DS attended? If not, I would assume everything is fine for now and that your DS was not invited because he is not a close friend.

Did your dc invite those kids to his party last year? If they aren't "whole class" parties and your dc isn't really good friends with the kids, I wouldn't worry.

YANBU to feel this way.

It’s natural to notice - how can you not, if there are pics on FB? Try to shrug it off for now though. It may have been that the birthday child was allowed to ask seven people and your child was no. 8 each time (or whatever). Perhaps have their closest friends over for a play date?

I know it’s hard Flowers

If whole class parties, it's a little strange. If small and you haven't invited them to your parties then I'd think nothing of it.

Once past the whole class stage, mine gave me a list of names and I added any that weren't on there that they had accepted invites from as rude not to reciprocate.

What is your job? Curious?

If its not bothering your DC then don't let it bother you. It sounds as if he is in a different friendship group from the party givers.

I have this...turned out one was a football party and the DM only invited DC who did football club. Another it was only other Mums she knew for the school gate (a mutual Mum asked the rationale outright as it was an odd mix apparently). I was gutted as I’d worried that me not dropping off would do this...these are both DC my DS plays with every break.

I have taken a deep breath as DS1 doesn’t care (I asked subtly and he said ‘I see a lot of them at school’). Also I figure they’ll invite their actual friends in a few years time.

Are you a police officer and are in a rough area? If so this was my childhood! Kids used to not talk to me because I would get my dad to put their daddies back in prison Hmm anyway all was well in the end and they were all my mates when their dad's accepted my dad lol!
