Adrian Chiles - drinking and me

Sorry I do know it’s been on before - but am finding this show worrying - I am a “drinker” and have considered cutting down but never seem to get around to it. Anyone else?

ddodprob maybe he was trying to be funny, or cool, or a smart arse for the camera. But if I had a mate like Adrian come to me and say what he did, I’d have said - yeah, that seems like a lot.
And you’re worried, what can I do to help? What do you need?

I didn’t watch this but I suppose I worry about it. I used to drink metric tons of booze

I can’t go out and socialise anymore so do usually end up ‘socialising’ with myself on the sofa with some wine! Thing is I can’t actually tolerate it very well anymore so my body makes sure I know I feel rough and I naturally find myself happier to drink less at a time and leave bigger gaps. I love alcohol free beer and will happily drink it. I have stopped drinking red wine as it is so bad for my teeth (I love it though) and find I have a really bad stomach the next day if I drink more than 3 glasses of prosecco.

The issue now is that I drink small amounts probably more often! I had 2 beers on Friday night then unexpectedly got invited to my Dsis house where we had some prosecco last night (1 bottle shared). So 2 nights in a row makes me feel stressed!

I did not drink at all for 2 months last year but this year i am really being conscious of how much and how often.

I watched a shocking programme on 10th Jan on Channel 5 called "My Alcohol Addiction" it was just trecovering alcoholics talking about their experiences, but very shocking.
Worth trying to get on catchup.

Hazel I'll look out for that one!

I would usually start with the best of intentions, a glass of wine with dinner, would then be may as well have another glass each given the bottle is open. Which too often meant by the end of the second glass I had a taste/thirst for it, and we'd end up opening a second bottle. Somehow we went from drinking a couple of nights a week to feeling we'd been good abstaining a couple of nights a week!
I genuinely think it become a habit, so it's been great doing dry January. I still find I'm very thirsty in the evening, but will happily down a litre of water rather than a bottle of wine!
MIL is also doing dry Jan and pours herself sparkling water into her usual wine glass of an evening, which means she doesn't feel like she's missing out. Might work if you're a white wine drinker but somehow I can't see a glass of Ribena doing it for me!
