To think there's something odd going on-Amazon account

Dozens of items added to my basket adding up to over 2 grand. Spoke to Amazon who says that I've not been hacked and maybe someone in my family (2 kids) could have been browsing on my account but they haven't.

No actual purchases and nothing has been taking out of my account.

Anyone else had this?

No. I'd change my password to be on safe side tbh

Do you have an Echo? We had random things pop up on a list.

An Echo? What, like an Alexa? No I haven't, but even so, could it put things in a basket?!

Yes - I’ve had this recently! If you Googleit, it appears it’s happened to a lot of people. No explanation for it though.

loveyoutothemoon · 13/01/2019 20:56

Jaimx86 oh OK thanks for that, how odd!

Lots of emails sent to me thanking me for reviews I've not done as well!

Yes would change your password if you haven’t already - maybe check your saved addresses to and check no others have been added?

Jaimx86 · 13/01/2019 21:38

Yes - I had those emails too. They’re not actually from Amazon, so be cautious opening them.

I once had my amazon account hacked and associated email address changed. A small digital download was deducted from my account the day before I tried to log in to make an order. Customer services were less than fucking useless because I couldn't give them the current email address to report the bloody problem. Apparently I didn't exist and they couldn't possibly put me on to someone senior who could do something without a script or put me through to an appropriate department because my hacked & changed email address did not exist on their system.

I had to phone the bank to cancel my card incase of other attempts to order against it, and reported to action fraud (more useful for record keeping than anything else)

I finally managed to google a security email address at amazon who managed to take it seriously and restore my account and refund the fraudulent payment. I also changed my email password as a precaution incase that had been hacked.

I had been having a flurry of spam emails claiming to be from amazon so missed a genuine one saying that I had changed my details.

Change your password and put on 2 factor authentication on your account. That should stop most hackers unless they’ve cloned your phone. Maybe change your email password too, to be on the safe side.

Only have 1 credit card you use for online shopping. Keep that with a low card limit at all times. If the bank up the spend limit phone and put it down. Never save any card details to any account online ever is the safest way.

I removed my card from Amazon because of the problem when they kept adding Prime to accounts, which I didn't want. I would rather add it if I buy something and then remove it again that worry about someone using it.

I hate Amazon for many reasons so only use it if it is the only place I can find an item.

Thanks everyone!
