I think I’m going to start the process of losing my job tomorrow

I can’t go into detail but I feel so upset as it wasn’t actually my fault. I’d say it it was.

Oh dear, losing a job is hard. Is there anything else you can share .... is it inevitable??

SeaViewBliss · 13/01/2019 19:32

Unless it was gross misconduct or you are in your probationary period, you should get some kind of performance management or improvement plan.

Of course I realise not all employers follow good practice so I hope everything turns out ok.

Obviously not knowing the details it's hard to give advice. However, I went through a process last year that resulted in me losing my job. It was devastating but it gave me the push I needed to pursue a totally new career in a brand new field and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Now I know the same may not apply to your situation but on the off chance it does, it might help to know everything's not necessarily lost. Hope everything turns out well!

That really sucks. Are you a member of a union you could call on for help?

aibutohavethisusername · 13/01/2019 19:56

Flowers for you.

Dextrodependant · 13/01/2019 19:57

Definitely call the union if you are in one.

My friend was recently convinced she was going to lose her job and she came very very close but managed to just cling on to it. It may not be as bad as it seems.

Wishing you luck!

I would strongly recommend beginning to update your CV and start looking for new jobs even as you move through this process.

It sounds like you are likely going to be put on a pip or similar.

I’d see if they offer a without prejudice conversation. if they do offer you’ll prob be offered around 3 months salary to leave. Don’t accept but then I’d speaking to an employment lawyer and be seeking to negotiate a settlement.

PIPs can be brutal on your mental health. I’d cut my losses and get out...

EatCrisps · 14/01/2019 06:36

Did you manage much sleep?

MissingGeorgeMichael · 14/01/2019 07:07

I'd second the getting your CV up to date and starting to register with some agencies. If the loss is inevitable then be proactive at finding a new job.

Good luck Flowers

I work in HR. Give us more detail and we will see if we can help. Sorry you are going through this

Omzlas · 14/01/2019 07:44

Are you in a union OP?

MissingGeorgeMichael · 14/01/2019 17:41

How did it go today OP?

Mumof1DS · 14/01/2019 18:08

Maybe it's not as bad as you think it is. Do your thoughts have a habit of running away with you and blowing it all out of proportion? I know it do, especially when i dwell on something in my mind.

Flowers to you.
