Re vape noise?

It's driving me mad. DH vapes but it ( or him) makes such a horrible noise. I can't really describe it something like a slurping noise or sucking a thick milkshake up through a straw type noise. Is this normal. I am on the verge of smashing the bloody thing.

I'd rather listen to the crackling of a vape than the wheezing and hacking of COPD. YABU

EggysMom · 13/01/2019 19:51

I think it comes down to what you vape and the vaping device used, not all vapes are created equal. DH has vaped for 7-8 years now, he does vape indoors (where he never used to smoke indoors), he vapes tobacco-flavoured nicotine liquid, and there is no smell or mess whatsoever. But I can follow other vapers down the street using different devices and fruity flavours, and the resultant vapour hangs in the air and smells disgusting.

PickledChutney · 13/01/2019 19:53

For those PPs who said they gave up smoking and now vape, I'd like to say that giving up smoking to vape instead isn't really giving up though is it? You're only fooling yourselves and vaping is also no good for your lungs. There's going to be a lot of people in years to come with vaping related health issues. And I am a person who stopped smoking 3 months ago with no assistance or replacements. If I can do it then anyone should be able to.

IceRebel · 13/01/2019 19:58

As someone who has never smoked I get why people carry on smoking cigarettes, it's addictive. But can those who vape; and I notice some on here have done so for many years, explain why they keep vaping?

It's a great tool to reduce then stop smoking cigarettes, but I can't understand why people then continue to vape after they've fully given up on the cigarettes.

PikaPikaTink · 13/01/2019 20:03

@icerebel it's because they are still addicted to nicotine but have found a way to get it without the tar and formaldehyde.

sirmione16 · 13/01/2019 20:07

I've found my people. I've started singing the "chuggington" theme tunes from the kids programme about the little train to him when he's on it too much. He takes a hint.

BaconPringles · 13/01/2019 20:16

I don’t get it either, I think vaping is a great way to stop smoking and gradually lower the nicotine levels to nothing.

BertieBotts · 13/01/2019 20:16

Because they like it? I don't think it's that hard to figure out TBH. Also it's just as addictive as smoking if you're vaping nicotine.

I never liked vaping, I prefer smoking, don't smoke though. I never smoked because I was addicted, I smoked because I liked it.

BaconPringles · 13/01/2019 20:19

Oh don’t get me wrong I prefered smoking too. But I just think they are tools that could be used temporarily for better benefit ykwim. Guess it’s up to the user tho!

sweeneytoddsrazor · 13/01/2019 20:24

Don't get me wrong I am glad he has stopped smoking and I wouldn't want him to go back, but I did assume the vape would be something he used as a tool for stopping smoking rather than a replacement. Agreed the liquids are greasy and horrid but he is very good at keeping them out of the way since the dog got hold of one and cost a fortune at the vets ( no damage done luckily). I like the idea of singing that will ensure he goes in another room Grin

Yes it is. I've given up smoking. I no longer smoke, therefore I've given up.

And I am a person who stopped smoking 3 months ago with no assistance or replacements

Bully for you, well done, that's great.

If I can do it then anyone should be able to

I am a 46 year old woman that can still do the splits. Can you? Why not? ...If I can do it then anyone should be able to.

I can't understand why people then continue to vape after they've fully given up on the cigarettes

Nicotine. Plus, the 'mental' part of the addiction is sometimes harder to give up than the 'physical'

mrslupin · 13/01/2019 20:30

My OH is the same we have a vape in every room in our house he spends hundreds of pounds on them. They make the most horrible noise, never any peace, white clouds of vapour everywhere. He will even vape in bed when I'm trying to sleep.

He hasn't smoked a cigarette in about 5 years, but he was supposed to be weaning off the vape. He's basically addicted to that now instead of cigarettes.

hendricksy · 13/01/2019 20:41

Vaping is gross , I have friends who do it and they stink of it . Sickly sweet smell , plus hasn't the vapour been through their lungs then I'm breathing it in . Yuck ..
I've never smoked though so hate that too.
At least when they smoked they went outside !!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/01/2019 20:45

He's basically addicted to (the vape) now instead of cigarettes

Most likely it's the nicotine he's addicted to rather than the device itself, though there's also the "hand to mouth" thing which many ex-smokers miss when they stop ... probably the reason vapes are much more popular than nicotine patches

It's the hand/mouth - as well as the flavour - which I use mine for now, especially as I vape just 1% nicotine and often none at all (which will probably confuse non-vapers completely!!)

Bluebearbell12 · 13/01/2019 20:48

OH MY GOD I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME

MotorcycleMayhem · 13/01/2019 20:57

I call bullshit on it being just water vapour. If it is, then how does anyone explain the cloud that lingers on my living room for minutes after DH puts his vape down?

I hate the smell of it. He always smokes it upwind of me when we're walking and clouds me with the bloody stuff despite my requests for him to pay more attention. He is now banned from using it in my car (it's a company car) after it started to retain the smell of his grape menthol crap. He is also banned from using it in the bedroom.

He never smoked in the house or my car before, but this fucking thing gets used everybloodywhere and I'm sick of it. My migraines are worse since he went on it and I'm sure there a correlation between that and it being smoked in the house and blown in my face all the time.

At least his beard smells nicer.

U2HasTheEdge · 13/01/2019 21:02

For those PPs who said they gave up smoking and now vape, I'd like to say that giving up smoking to vape instead isn't really giving up though is it? You're only fooling yourselves and vaping is also no good for your lungs.

I am not fooling myself. I do not smoke, I vape. The crap they add to cigarettes is what kills you, not the nicotine. Plenty of vapers use 0% nicotine as well. I have given up smoking.

We do not know that vaping is bad for the lungs. We won't know for sure until people have been vaping for much longer, but there has been some research which is looking quite positive. I know that I can breathe without wheezing and walk without coughing. I don't know that vaping is completely harmless, but I do know it is less of a risk than smoking is and that is good enough for me.

But can those who vape; and I notice some on here have done so for many years, explain why they keep vaping?

I enjoy it. It relaxes me, I love the hand to mouth movements. I have no desire not to vape. Why do some people drink alcohol?

HarryTheSteppenwolf · 13/01/2019 21:06

The noise is nowhere near as disgusting as the smell. Those groups who hang around outside doors of workplaces leave clouds of foul-smelling vapour that others have to walk through. I don't imagine it's anwhere near as harmful as smoke but it's just as unpleasant.

CustardCreamLover · 13/01/2019 21:17

I call my husbands vape pen his dummy 😂

PrinceWillybum · 13/01/2019 21:45

I vape because I find it enjoyable and relaxing and I'm addcited to nicotine. I've no intention of stopping. I have no other vices, eat healthily and exercise regularly. My body, my choice.

Badstyley · 13/01/2019 22:01

Oh dear, some PPs on this thread would hate me. I have one of those big industrial fog machines. When I’m vaping I create my own weather systems. My flat has a permafog. I’m not sorry, I like vaping. I used to love my roll ups and now I’ve quit those for my vape.

...and exhale...

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/01/2019 11:36

Not the point of the thread I know but is vaping looked upon the same as smoking in public places? Yes... by narrow minded people who refuse to take time to learn facts, have empathy, do anything other than demand that everyone else in the world has zero impact on them.

Never mind that they too will smell, use aerosols, make noises, have habits etc etc etc.

There will always be some people who refuse to consider the trials and tribulations of others. Who will always choose to denigrate, to be negative, when a small mental shift to focus on the positive change would make them, and those around them, far happier.

Negative Nellies come in all sizes, smells and shapes. Just like Vapers!

AnneRussell · 06/10/2020 00:18

You should really buy a new one in my opinion because it can be dangerous. I have heard of those things blowing up and you will not want to be one of the victims... Those things are really not that expensive now and it is easy to find a good one on www.vaporsolo.com/sony-vtc5a-18650-2600mah-25a-battery/ . Vaporsolo is a great website and you might even be able to fix your vape and parts for it can be found there. I buy batteries there which last me for a long time. It is the same like on your smartphones, those things lose their capacity over time...

MrsPotatoHeadsSheeWee · 06/10/2020 00:31

YES! MiL vapes and the noise reminds me of a bubble pipe. Which just adds to the ridiculous nature of it for me. She uses a noxious liquid with tones of zoflora; god knows what it does to her lungs. Envy (not envy)

user1473878824 · 06/10/2020 02:30

@WhentheRabbitsWentWild

Its from the battery/coil . My vape does the same but its not for a long while the noise

Poor sod . Obviously trying to give up and you take angrily to the sound of it and want to smash it up !

🙄 and that’s from a smoker
