Whats wrong with me? Always in pain

Justanothernamechange2 · 12/01/2019 21:10

Posting here for traffic.

I feel like im always in pain - my partner thinks its all in my head, but im sure its not.

I get a lot of joint pain. Regular headaches. Many aches and pains on waking that disappear in a few hours despite new pillows etc. My skin hurts to touch, if i bunp into something my skin burns. Im always tired. Wake up every day with pins and needles.

Just feel there is ALWAYS something wrong. Its pissing DP off and hes always making digs "whats todays ailment"

I have mentioned it to my GP on 2 occasions while there for other things but its always been dismissed so i never want to book a specific appointment and feel like im wasting time.

what is bloody wrong with me? Is it all in my head?

Matches a lot of symptoms of fibromyalgia. It's not fully understood but it's believed that nerves fire off pain signals even in the absence of an actual cause for pain. Might not be that, but may be worth looking into

AwfulSomething · 12/01/2019 21:15

Look into tension myositis syndrome.

DangerMouse17 · 12/01/2019 21:16

You need to insist on a full blood test with the GP...could be any multitude of things and it needs proper investigation

Ucangourownwoo · 12/01/2019 21:17

Write down the full list, keep a diary (there are some good apps for this) and see your gp.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 12/01/2019 21:18

I thought maybe fibromyalgia.

newestbridearound · 12/01/2019 21:19

Get back to the gp and explain all the symptoms you’ve been having. You will not be wasting their time and it sounds as though you need a specific appointment to discuss all these issues. As a minimum I’d expect they will do a full set of bloods to look at things like vitamin D levels, vitamin B12, iron, thyroid etc. All of these can cause issues with pain and fatigue.
It could be numerous things- having random and constant symptoms was what led me to being diagnosed with ME. Or it could be fibromyalgia or another autoimmune type illness. But first port of call is definitely back to the doctors to get some tests done because it may be something easily rectified.

newestbridearound · 12/01/2019 21:21

Also don’t let anyone make you feel it’s all in your head. Even if the symptoms are being caused by something like anxiety etc then they are still very real and you deserve help to deal with them.
Before I was diagnosed with ME I was convinced I was going insane. How could I possibly have a new problem every week?! Turns out that’s just the joy of the illness.

Shafernakerd · 12/01/2019 21:30

OP o dear! You are exactly me. Everyone’s fed up, something is always hurting and can’t sleep at night as each side I lay on starts to burn after a while and I have to turn. Been to the doctors but they don’t take it seriously, fibromyalgia was mentioned once but then dismissed as apparently I didn’t have all the symptoms. I don’t get the pins and needles but everything else is exactly the same.

AnoukSpirit · 12/01/2019 21:33

Rightly or wrongly, the GP might previously have dismissed it because of the whole "one problem per appointment" thing.

So book an appointment specifically for this, take a list, and ask for tests and follow up.

Fibromyalgia tends to be the answer you get if they can't find anything else / can't be bothered to keep looking for the answer. But either way, it should be investigated, and once you have an outcome you can access support / treatment / pain management.

Being in pain all the time is shit, and anxiety over not knowing the cause will probably make it worse. You shouldn't have to just put up with it. Flowers

jessstan2 · 12/01/2019 21:34

It does sound like fibromyalgia. I feel for you very much.
Perhaps it's best not to say anything to your partner about it, people often don't understand the condition but it is real.

Find a specialist in your area and see them. Osteopathy and chiropractor therapy can be very helpful.

Stress aggravates fibromyalgia so please try to relax.

AnoukSpirit · 12/01/2019 21:35

Your partner is unreasonable for getting pissy with you for being in pain. Who the hell makes nasty comments towards somebody they care about who's suffering?

HarleyQuinnxx · 13/01/2019 07:11

I'm with you on this one and I finally found a doctor to believe me and he sent me and take me seriously I am now under some amazing specialists pain clinics and awaiting some surgeries. I'm not going into it all but feel free to send me a private message. But ask about fibromyalgia. Allodynia. MS. MND.
Get some MRA of your Head.

JaffaBiscuitNotCake · 13/01/2019 07:23

I'm almost exactly the same and I'm permanently exhausted. I get so many weird skin sensations too, stabbing, crawling, feeling of bleeding (if that makes sense) and vibrating as if a phone is vibrating against me. I do have MH issues so have wondered if related but I also have bad IBS and I've noticed when my IBS is at it's worst so are the other symptoms.

Tbh I'm totally fed up, it's been going on for years and is just getting worse. For someone supposedly fit and healthy my quality of life is shit.

Don't have the answer though unfortunately, but sympathy for how shit it is Flowers

Thanks everyone for the replies.. they are really helpful!

I will go back to the GP then.

Interesting that a few of you have mentioned auto-immune conditions as I already have type1 diabetes and its common to have one auto-immune condition and more to follow through life.

I am folate-deficient too and take folic acid daily and try to eat a lot of B12 rich foods - my last blood work came back the lower end of in range so Ive been quite frustrated that im still so tired and fatigued.

Hannahmates · 13/01/2019 10:49

Is your diabetes well controlled? Pins and needles could indicate some nerve damage from high blood sugars.

Thewifipasswordis · 13/01/2019 10:52

Vitamin D levels. This was my major symptom.

Mostly gone now after 2 loading doses. And several months of recovery time.

I also have non caeliac gluten intolerance which accounts for a lot of it too.

BollocksToBrexit · 13/01/2019 10:55

Waking up with a headache that gets better through the day is one of the main symptoms of sleep apnea. You sound like me. I already have a fibromyalgia diagnosis and an being assessed for sleep apnea next week.

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/01/2019 10:55

Could be pernicious anemia can cause a lot of symptoms.

Justanothernamechange2 · 13/01/2019 15:01

My diabetes is well controlled yes, the odd high and low but majority in range.

Hmm thanks everyone. A lot of info to look at. Will ring the drs tuesday (mondays are emergency appts only at my surgery)

It does seem consistent with many of the symptoms from fibromyalgia. This is normally confirmed by blood tests with a rheumatologist.

Vitamin d? Hypermobility?

Queenoftheworld101 · 28/01/2022 17:44

My daughter went through severe, severe muscle pain and tight muscle spasms last year. The pain was excruciating. Nothing helped. I found a blog after a lot of research about a lady who had same severe pain and it went away after she cut artificial sweetners and sugar alcohols from her diet. Things like xylitol, sucralose, sorbitol...we noticed her vitamins had artificial sweeteners. vitamins and juice. And low fat dairy she was eating. They add sweeteners in there. 2 weeks later pain began getting better, months later this pain is completely gone. Turned out to be a reaction to artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols. Theres medical journal describing a lady with fibromyalgia whos symptoms went away after she cut sucralose from her diet.
