to absolutely loathe nits!

ds has kindly shared his nits with me, and now i'm wondering how to treat myself? i have combed through his hair with conditioner and applied headlice mousse, but i'm worried about missing a section of my own hair. dh is away, so asking him isn't an option, and i don't feel comfortable asking someone else.

hoping someone can guide me through! i really despise the little buggers :(

Have you got the metal nitty gritty comb??

Cheap conditioner on dry hair and comb through with that every 3 or 4 days and you will eradicate them. I used to section my hair up using butterfly clips.

Momasita · 12/01/2019 14:51

I don't know what you mean.
Soak your hair with the mouse, you will feel to see if it's wet...

Comb the mouse all through. Its all any of us can do 😁... You will be fine.

The mouse works well. You can also use conditioner in the the shower after. As in every day.. And comb through

YANBU, they are rank. Treat yourself and your son, and get a nitty gritty comb and use it on both of you (with lots of conditioner) every couple of days. We were all infested before Christmas and just did this and got rid pretty quickly.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 12/01/2019 14:55

Horror story alert.
When dd was about 6 she got nits. And so did I. It took over 2 years to be rid.
And I tried everything under the sun, scouring foreign websites as well.
What finally worked? Nitty gritty and conditioner as mentioned above. Not one of the billion marketed products touched them.

Schmoobarb · 12/01/2019 14:57

I’ve got short hair so it was not bad for me. Otherwise as others have said section it off and comb repeatedly.

RandomMess · 12/01/2019 14:57

Nitty gritty breaks the legs of hatchlings gets the eggs off the hair it is utterly amazing and chemical free!

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 12/01/2019 14:58

Re-occurrence from the same original laying is after about 4-6 weeks. We'd think we were clear, then boak here they hatch again. Masses of conditioner (pound shop huges bottles) and literally slather it on. To nitty gritty Dd's shoukder length hair every 2 days would take about 90 mins.

ForgotTheBastardElfAgain · 12/01/2019 15:02

My kids are passing them between themselves and it’s killing me. I have very long thick hair, and it’s a nightmare combing through. I feel your pain.

RandomMess · 12/01/2019 15:03

Eggs hatch after 7 days, they then take 10 days to mature and lay themselves...

After 4-6 weeks you picked up adults from someone else again... it's easy for it to go around and around and around a group of school friends unless people treat at least weekly for several weeks.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 12/01/2019 15:05

sigh i guess i'll be spending my evening combing them out then (i have thick, long curly hair). i've got a bottle of supermarket own brand conditioner so will give that a try tonight.

I don't get it... Surely you will just buy enough and ensure your hair is wet through with the mouse or whatever! Easy

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 12/01/2019 15:08

Really? Doesn't surprise me. I often thought I was the only one treating them in the class. Bloody nightmare.

RandomMess · 12/01/2019 15:08

Yep it's hideous, me plus 4 DDs with long non-straight hair 😢 honestly conditioner on dry hair works fine and you don't freeze to death.

You have nitty gritty though? No other nit comb worth using.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 12/01/2019 15:08

dotty1970 i was wondering how i could thoroughly comb through my hair without missing any nits (i wanted to go through my hair with conditioner 1st before treating it)
