I'm sure I came across this idea here ages ago, but I've put it into practice lately with great success.

I use a fairycake tin to serve lunch - tiny portions in each section of cheese, carrots, ham, hummus, banana, etc.

All food the DC would eat under duress, but find boring or just not be interested, but now they munch and nibble very happily, choosing small bits at a time and keeping the food organised. :)

It takes a wee bit longer to prepare, but mealtime is much more enjoyable all around. I'm really pleased!

Thanks op, I'll give this a go for my very very picky DS!

Worth a try. Although finding 12 different things to fill each section might be a struggle. Suppose I could put one chip in each 😭

I feel you, Ahoy. At least one section for dipping sauce?
I definitely have the same items in more than one section.

Those Gu ramekin pots are good for this too. We also have some divided plate/tray things like you get in school.

I bought I vegetable 3D shape cutters as well for my massively picky son, he LOVED it, we did carrot aeroplanes, cucumber elephants etc. Set up little safari scenes on his plate haha.

I remember the days when dd wouldn't eat sandwiches, but would happily eat heart shaped buttered bread, small cubes of cheese and star shaped ham or chicken! She grew out of it, thankfully. It was a PITA, but, at 7 she eats most things including a wide range of vegetables. I only put 'hidden' veggies in smoothies and she knows they are in there. Everything else she eats. It is worth persevering in any way that works to get them to eat the good stuff. They grow out of the fussiness but are left with a liking of healthy foods.

You can get six cup trays if it helps

You could also try something like this and put it on the table for them to share instead of a individual pan.

Give them tongs to serve themselves too!

Have been doing this for dd (now 10) for years, she is on the asd spectrum and it helps her because she feels more in control of her food.

Might dig out the cookie cutters tomorrow....

You can get the 3d animal shapes off etsy I think, if the cookie cutters don't work out. There's an English lady who does planes, penguins etc I think

So you just dropped chopped up veg & fruit into a cute container & they ate it? I wish my solutions were so simple.

RedemptiveCrocodile · 13/01/2019 17:21

I'm not saying it works for everyone, and I'm pretty sure it won't work forever here, but the novelty helped. And tiny portions. Maybe I need to feed them as if they are mice.
