What’s the longest you’ve ever stayed in a job?

As the other thread was about shortest time and I’ve had a few jobs where I lasted less than a month....let’s look at the longest you’ve ever stayed somewhere!

Mine is 4 years in one organisation but 2 different roles in that company in 2 different locations.

Then 18 months somewhere else.

I’ve had a couple of long term contracting roles that I quite like that lasted a year. And a couple of other perm jobs for around 12 months.

I’m not great at sticking around at jobs I don’t really like!

13 years in one job, but 23 years in the organisation

Alsonification · 11/01/2019 22:36

My current job as a self employed childminder, almost 19 years.

ChangingStates · 11/01/2019 22:36

23 years and counting- 4 promotions in that time so not sure that counts as same job- same place and not a huge organisation

Linnet · 11/01/2019 22:37

18 years this year

Whatjusthappenedthere · 11/01/2019 22:38

12 years same place. Same job. Same people. No change. But that’s fine. I like it this way.

LotsToThinkOf · 11/01/2019 22:38

11 years

mrbob · 11/01/2019 22:41

18months Blush Mainly because I moved so often as part of my training not because I am rubbish

Unusualusernames · 11/01/2019 23:27

Seven very long years and I’m hoping for a lottery win this weekend Grin

RaininSummer · 11/01/2019 23:39

Will break my record next month with 8 years. That is only because its harder to change once you get over 50 and most jobs are badly paid here.

Crunchymum · 11/01/2019 23:40

Coming up to 18 years !

pallisers · 11/01/2019 23:40

20 plus years with the same company but I had radically different roles during that time. I am probably the only person in the USA who has had only one employer.

BearFoxBear · 11/01/2019 23:42

8 years but should have left after 1!

AWafferthinmint · 11/01/2019 23:44

13 years and I think I will be here until I retire, I genuinely love my job. I have had times when I've hated it and looked elsewhere but I'm glad I've stayed.

iklboo · 11/01/2019 23:47

15 years this year in this company
10 years in the one before that

Longdistance · 11/01/2019 23:47

15 years. Loved that job. I regret leaving to have dc and buggering off to Oz.

Mum4Fergus · 11/01/2019 23:48

20 years with same company...5 different roles in that time-first role for 3 years, 2 years, 2 years, 3 years, then current role for 10 years.

restingbitchfarce · 11/01/2019 23:49

I've been doing the same job since the late 1980's but for several different companies, the longest of which was 10 years

Purpleartichoke · 11/01/2019 23:49

I’ve been at my current job for 19 years. I expect to work there for another 20-25 until I retire.

elephantoverthehill · 11/01/2019 23:49

20 years in the same school. I did teach in other schools before this post.

Schmoobarb · 11/01/2019 23:51

10 years. It was at least 3 or 4 years too long.

LoniceraJaponica · 11/01/2019 23:52

14 years. I love my job. My role keeps changing so I don't get a chance to get bored.

HomeEdRocks18 · 11/01/2019 23:52

13 yrs working for DWP

ALittleCrisp · 11/01/2019 23:55

21 years and left last year for a civil service role, hopefully will stay in that for another 20!

Mistigri · 12/01/2019 08:21

I've been with my current employer for nearly 30 years Shock, basically the same role for most of that time, although I'm more senior now obviously. Job has evolved a lot of course. It's well paid and very "niche". I'd like to think I have another 10 years in the job although Brexit could screw that up.
