Dd has just turned one and I’ve had social services on my case that she is over weight.

I’m not the best with her food but I’m pretty strict on her eating relatively healthy so I’m wondering where I’m going wrong.

I'm sorry @SailAwayWithMeHuni , that must have come as quite a shock. They really should have told you if they were planning to make referral.
The only other thing I can think of is whether she has crossed the boundaries of centile weight "too quickly". So my boy has always sat around the 80-90th centile, and we were told that if he dropped two boundaries to the 50th (so crossing the 75th and then the 50th) it would be a concern. Perhaps it also works the other way - has she rapidly gone from 50th to 85th for example?

My child appears to be the only one who doesn’t snack between meals! Blush

Stealthtoast · 11/01/2019 22:17

@SailAwayWithMeHuni that doesn't look too much to me! Portion size is hard to judge though - you could look up what's recommended for that age. I would say that it might be good to try to get some vegetables into lunch though (says she who eats bread and cheese most days...)

My 9 month old had
Breast milk
Small amount of porridge and a finger of buttered toast
About 1/4 banana
3 mini rice cakes
Bread dunked in soup, cheese, tomato
Cooked apple and yoghurt
a couple of bits of satsuma
90ml formula
Ratatouille, baked potato and grated cheese
A bit of pineapple

The sleep at 12 months my dd had a am nap for an hour and then one after lunch for 2 hours. By 15 months she dropped the am nap. Mine has rarely slept through through and if she does she is awake by 5.30-6am

My son is 22 months but has typically had the following for about a year.

Breakfast: usually porridge with raspberries (frozen) and a slice of toast. Sometimes has toast and fruit salad, or cereal, toast and fruit (he's always liked a lot for breakfast)

Snack: usually a toddler snack such as a fruit bake or oat bar.

Lunch: usually a cheese sandwich (one slice of bread), small handful of crisps, piece of fruit. Sometimes beans on toast, pasta with tomato sauce and cheese, or jacket potato.

Snack; fruit

Dinner: whatever we are having - spaghetti Bolognese, lasagne, enchiladas, pasta & meatballs, burger & chips, chicken in a sauce with potato and veg, etc. Always followed by fruit and yoghurt.

Bedtime milk

We make nearly everything from scratch (including bread/yoghurt), going through a slightly fussy stage with food, especially veggies, but eats alllll fruit except for bananas. Very active toddler, but very tall and 'solid' and has always had a good appetite.

God I wish I hadn't have read this. My 21 month old eats hardly anything and this has made me feel terrible!!! She apparently doesn't eat too bad at nursery but on a weekend she will eat 2 mini yoghurts and maybe half a slice of toast for breakfast. She normally won't take any lunch so I put a snacking plate out for her to graze on of cucumber, carrots, breadsticks, chicken in breadcrumbs and some fruit which sometimes will get eaten sometimes not. Then dinner is whatever we will have. Again, sometimes eats sometimes doesn't. A bowl of porridge for bed then she has 2-3 wake ups for milk (cut this to 3oz per bottle) during the night after a full bed time bottle. I honestly don't know how she survives but she just isn't bothered about food! Not had her weighed since just turned one and was in 85th percentile I believe (was a premie in 95th percentile when born)

I've been looking after my dgc today and she has had

Porridge with a few blueberries

Half a banana and 2 oatcakes mid morning

Scrambled egg half a slice of wholemeal toast
Stewed apple

Few segments of satsuma and a breadstick

Rice and veg and red lentils
Fromage frais

Whole milk

Kariana · 11/01/2019 22:32

I wouldn't say she's sleeping too much, children that age need plenty of sleep.

I'd definitely cut down on the milk though. 12oz per day is the recommended amount for her age so she's significantly over that, especially as that 12oz includes any milk used on cereal or that they get in cheese and yogurt.

Mammyloveswine · 12/01/2019 11:07

My just turned one year old has wheetabix with milk and berries for breakfast, a mid morning snack of a few wotsits and half a banana or a biscuit again with fruit. Lunch he tends to have tomato and veg pasta with a yoghurt or a spready cheese sandwich and veg sticks. Sometimes veg soup and a roll. Dinner is usually a pasta dish (If we've not had it for lunch) or shepherds pie and veg, pizza and home made chips with peas and cherry tomstoes..

He has an 8oz bottle before bed and still has a breastmilk feed on a morning.

I've no idea what he weighs, he's solid but not as chubby as his brother was at the same age. (He's now a stick!).

Don't worry about ss, easier said than done. Work with them and they will help and support you. It might be they take no further action straight away!

Social services coming to visit because of her weight at one? I think that is crazy, unless she is well outside the charts. How much does she weigh?
