Primary school and scooters

So our school has decided to invest in a scooter park to keep scooters during school to encourage a healthy lifestyle and exercise. I actually don't understand this for a few reasons.

  1. Scooters are not to be used on the playground. I agree with this. People still do it though and you have to try and not get run over.
  2. How will scooters be identified and trust people to take the right scooter or not get lost.
  3. It won't promote a healthy lifestyle as it won't encourage more people to stop driving. They will simply get the scooter our of the car when parked at school and they will scoot around the play ground.
  4. A scooter in my eyes is less exercise than walking itself as you only move one let and go at a faster speed so hardly move at all...

Is it just me who doesn't get this 'good idea....? Prepared to be told I'm wrong.

I said this to a fellow mum and got shot down

Do you live in a city? One school I worked in (1990s) was a community playground. Children would play in it after school, up to 8pm with bikes and stuff. Safer than the streets.

No we live in a small village. Parking is an issue and the local residents often complain about the parking. So in theory the scooter suggestion should work. But like I said I have seen a lot of scooters coming out of cars which is obviously not the same every where so yes iabu. Most kids live within a 10 to 15 minute walk from school and the fact many struggle to walk that is a bit Confused

I am a walker though and always have been. I don't have a car and used to walk about 7 miles a day to get to and from work. Due to not enough money to get a train and a bus

We've got a 15 minute walk to school - takes longer with a 5 year old. We take the scooter, it's great!

I can understand that. Mine have just had to walk all the time and I'm quite regimented with time Blush so they just have to get on with it. That and I tried scooters and ended up carrying 3! Because it was too bumpy...so I accept I am biased
