so sick of myself... weight

So sick of myself, I lost 2 stone between sept and nov 2018, I was a size 18 (several kids, I blame) and went down to a 12/14 and felt much better in myself. I had an occasion to lose it for. Bridesmaid. Now I have not weighed myself since. But I ate and drank like a pig over Christmas and I have avoided weighing in, my fragile health and weight status would just ruin me if I see it quantified, but I know I have repacked at least a stone in weight. I bought a dress today, size 14, but I can’t try it on until march as I am putting blinkers on. 8 weeks, 2 stone anyone on board? Did it once, can do it again.

I am! Was a size 10 last summer after last baby, now a size 14. No, I’m lying - the clothes are tight, so 16 really. I avoid looking at myself in the mirror. Have a wedding to attend in March and really need to shift the weight. Trouble is I was anorexic for years and have no idea how to lose weight healthily. Need to get to grips with it though! As you say, if we did it once surely we can do it again! Smile

Just want to wish you good luck. You'll need something to give you a starting point so if you don't want to see numbers on the scales, either measure a part of your body, take a picture or use an outfit you can keep measuring your size by.

Consider longer term weight loss too, two months is a very short time to lose two stones and keep it off - and I know that while Christmas is the worst time of the year for maintaining or losing weight, it's easy to get dragged down with the various other holidays or dates coming up in the next few months.

poppiesallykatie · 11/01/2019 16:39

@MrsAriadneOliver

I don't look in the mirror either, for body or face. I can't bear it I just can't go there! Sad . My brother had anorexia and it is beyond difficult. So I am cautious now that you have said that in your history Flowers. By march it is perfectly healthily possible to drop that weight.

A normal weight loss is 2 pounds per week. A dress size drop can be less than a stone 12-14 pounds.

having been overweight for a long time tried every diet on the planet (ww, sw, cambridge, cabbage soup, atkins etc etc) only thing that has worked for me is blood sugar diet or 5:2 fast diet have lost two stone so far, a lot more to loose but its good healthy food and I dont feel hungry

poppiesallykatie · 11/01/2019 17:06

Do you like fast for 5 days @Steve? How many calories?

Cully · 11/01/2019 17:11

Can’t you just eat healthily and lose the weight steadily? Women abuse our bodies so much just to look ‘thin enough’. You’re not a failure for putting weight on over Christmas, it means you had a great relaxing Christmas and enjoyed yourself!

Food is not the enemy. These fad diets encourage a disordered relationship with food and weight just ends up yoyoing

poppiesallykatie · 11/01/2019 17:17

Thank you @wetpaint. It was a fast weight loss, too fast and I am older also, the bridesmaid thing was a bit of a shock, It was too fast and too panicked

When I was in my 20's 126 to 130 pounds was my norm, I was never a tiny size 6, that size didn't exist when I was young.

3 kids later, I vowed I would not hit 200 pounds' but did hit 196 with one child. And all kids done now and left with the waste zone. Having said that my DH has developed his own little pot belly on his own with no excuse.

@poppiesallykatie

I’m sorry to hear about your brother! How is he doing now? I know how deeply it hurts to see loved ones go through it. I can only speak for myself, but there was a deep sense of shame that came from upsetting my family. I really hope he’s doing well! Flowers

I do have a copy of the blood sugar diet - that I haven’t read! I’m glad to hear you say it works for you @Steve. I really want to shift it for good this time, I just find it difficult to follow a plan and resist the temptation to slip back into old habits. Plus with 3DC under 5 I don’t have time for the gym (which I loved!) or cooking separate adult meals.

I’m just making excuses aren’t I? Must stop it and try to look after myself, the way I do the children Smile

@cully

I know what you are saying is correct. I know you are being kind but I ate over Christmas because it was so bad., I now feel like crap. I don't see food as an enemy, but I can't seem to kick into gear.

I've been looking into the Fast 800 which is Michael Moseley's newest book. As he tests all his theories on himself first I have much more faith in him.

I've not started it yet but have made some small changes.

  1. Drinking lots more water - 1.5l I aim to do half before midday and half after. This is not instead of any other drinks (although I only drink rooibos tea mainly)
  2. Not eating unless/until I'm hungry. For example, I had a bigger lunch than usual on Wednesday so wasn't hungry at supper time. Chose not to eat then but have something smaller later.
  3. Trying to be more conscientious about my choices but not restricting what I eat - if it's forbidden I'm going to crave it!
poppiesallykatie · 11/01/2019 17:45

@Gatehouse77, I agree with your points, more water (I do drink black tea though) and to be honest all I ever want to eat. is cheese on toast.

I am in the same place. Having lost weight twice and putting it back on is getting silly. I want 0.5lb loss a week as I think smalll weight loss stays of longer

MountPheasant · 11/01/2019 17:51

I’m totally on board- want to lose 3 stone by May. It’s my birthday tomorrow so I’m sacking off this weekend and starting the 8 week blood sugar diet on Monday.

Gatehouse77 · 11/01/2019 17:58

My motivation is we're going to Hawaii in July and I don't want to feel like a fat blob. It's not about what other people think but how I feel and right now I'd want to cover up or avoid it!

LoubyLou1234 · 11/01/2019 18:02

I don't understand fad diets, yes you'll lose weight for what you need but then once that target/event etc has passed people often revert to old diet and then pile it back on and in some cases even more.
Eat well/healthily and exercise/move more. A lifestyle change and mindset is needed and no I'm not talking turning into a vegan gym bunny.

Just make better food choices, smaller portions. Don't deprive of odd treats. Move more when possible. I know people are busy but it's amazing what you can squeeze in when you really want something. Plus the more you move the better you feel.

I've never dieted I had to change my diet due to IBS years ago. I'm not perfect but it can be done. I have to keep it to maintain and an ok weight or I can feel my size 12 jeans tightening. I don't weigh myself either I don't think it's healthy for me be obsessed by my weight, can tell when I'm putting weight on. I've worked with teenagers with ED and it's scary how easy it is to fall into food restriction/obsession etc.

SteveMcGarrettsBudgieSmugglers · 11/01/2019 18:25

no you fast for two days 500 calories its easier than it sounds, there are some really good recipes online, if you google it there is an official page on it

John4703 · 11/01/2019 18:55

I was starting to gain weight and my DW told me.
Don't be depressed by weight gain but work at it for your health and self esteem.
If you think you are overweight you have made the first step to getting to be less heavy. the people who are really fat think they are perfect so don't ask for help
