People who have Baby on Board signs in their car and drive like lunatics

Happened again this morning. A car came speeding down the road behind me then veered off into the next lane. The Baby on Board sign in the rear window just seemed like the ultimate cheek.

If you want people to drive carefully around your loved ones, perhaps show them the same respect,

People who have Baby on Board signs full stop. They're so pointless.

Justification either being, so the emergency services know there's a child in the car, or so that other people drive more carefully around my car, or, just showing off, I think?

MaidenMotherCrone · 11/01/2019 12:45

No one takes any notice of those self indulgent stickers/signs.

Everyone should drive carefully anyway.

MaidenMotherCrone · 11/01/2019 12:46

Emergency services check all vehicles thoroughly and pay no attention to those signs.

badlydrawnperson · 11/01/2019 12:47

I am regularly surprised by the aggressive, inattentive and plain dangerous driving I see done by people with one or more young children in the car.

Near the pinnacle was after attending a meeting at school where we implored by the head to park responsibly. I came out and was nearly mown down by a fellow parent, kids in car, on her phone with no lights on in the dark.

chestylarue52 · 11/01/2019 12:48

Exactly, and most people don't remove them when the child isn't in the car so they're totally pointless anyway.

MissCromwellatKingscote · 11/01/2019 12:48

I once saw someone post on MN, in all seriousness, that the purpose of these signs was to warn other drivers that you might be distracted due to having small children in the car Shock

Am I the only one who thinks you don’t see these signs much anymore, maybe message has dawned that they’re useless

I have noticed this on many an occasion.

The signs are also monstrous and cringeworthy

IWouldPreferNotTo · 11/01/2019 12:52

I've got one to appease my partner but the window tint means you can barely see it and I think they're pretty pointless.

TwinPair · 11/01/2019 12:52

The 'baby on board' sign is an indicator for emergency services if they are attending the scene of an RTA. If a vehicle has a BOB sign, the Emergency Services check if there are any children in or around the scene.

There may not have been DC in the car that passed you.

Yanbu if they were breaking the legal speed limit.

Eatmycheese · 11/01/2019 12:54

How did we survive without these signs?
And unless they are removed when a child isn't in they are actually hindering the emergency services.

recently · 11/01/2019 12:55

See also Italian variation: people driving like maniacs with a rosary/virgin Mary/pope in the dashboard. Nuns are the worst - guess they think they're covered!

MissCromwellatKingscote · 11/01/2019 12:55

No Twin but there may have been children in the cars she was speeding past. Does she not have to drive carefully around other children (or indeed everyone) while demanding that people accord her extra respect because she has a baby?

OP posts:
Eatmycheese · 11/01/2019 12:55

The worst drivers I see are fellow mothers with young children in the car.

Craft1905 · 11/01/2019 12:58

I always quite fancied a sign that said "Please feel free to plough into the back of me, I'm totally sterile"

MissCromwellatKingscote · 11/01/2019 12:59

Grin Craft1905.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 11/01/2019 13:00

Twinpair- no it isn't. Never has been. It's an urban myth. See Snopes etc.

Eatmycheese · 11/01/2019 13:01

@Craft1905 very witty.

Eatmycheese · 11/01/2019 13:03

@BookMeOnTheSudExpress you mean the signs aren't there for the emergency services?
I wondered that myself.
I just thought they were bit of twattish gimmickry invented to get parents to spend even more one something telling the rest of the disinterested world they too have procreated. And want their car to be part of it.

RosemarysBabyDress · 11/01/2019 13:04

complete bollocks.

No one removes the sign when the kids aren't in the car to start with,
and emergency services check for children in any car!

These signs are just pointless.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 11/01/2019 13:08

MissCromwell- yes, it's an urban myth. And quite insulting to other drivers AND the emergency services. Who often complain, as others have said, that they waste time looking for the thrown hundreds of feet from the car "l'il Princess" who was on board.

Money-earning gimmick. Useful for spotting entitled parents I suppose.

Fieldsgrowingdark · 11/01/2019 13:13

There's a growing trend now for signs saying 'Drive carefully. Millie/Jayden/whatever the baby's called on Board'.

They're really annoying.
