Did anyone else get a surprise Virgin Cheque...

for no reason? I only ask, because I would have cashed it, but DH called them to ask them what it was for and they have not a clue. They are investigating. Very weird, as it could have been thousands of cheques sent out.

Just trying to work out how this could be a scam, or just a simple mistake. Too late to try and cheque it if it is a simple mistake as we now know we're not entitled. (Though we thought it might be because of all the times we were without a service).

How much was it for?

Faultymain5 · 13/01/2019 13:29

Oh £120 something. Not a lot in the great scheme of things but would have been handy

I'd cash it anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

user139328237 · 13/01/2019 13:32

That would be theft @thewifipasswordis and you would be extremely likely to be caught.

Singlebutmarried · 13/01/2019 13:33

You’ve not recently changed mortgage and it’s a cash back?

Propertywoe · 13/01/2019 13:36

Virgin once sent me a cheque because they believed they had overcharged on my mobile contract as the phone was paid off. I didn’t have a phone contract just sim only. It was £40 and told me to keep the money for the inconvenience.

Faultymain5 · 15/01/2019 08:35

Singlebutmarried we have changed mortgages but not with Virgin.

Propertywoe I actually don't know what they've said to my DH about the cheque other than they know nothing.

There was a really long (over a week) outage in my area that they issued refunds for, maybe it was for that and you had mistakenly been added to the list of people affected?

allinthelineofduty · 15/01/2019 11:24

So the cheque just arrived in an envelope with no other correspondence?

GeminiRising · 15/01/2019 11:30

Anything to do with this maybe? Virgin have been sending out refunds.

If its too late to do anything with it now then I assume the cheque is dated over 6 months ago. Did you have any problems with Virgin back in June or July? Any loss of service? Overcharged for a handset that had already been paid for? Any previous complaint that could have been referred to Ofcom?

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/01/2019 11:31

Have you recently signed up to their TV service and it was a cashback deal for new customers?

Faultymain5 · 15/01/2019 11:40

@ShartGoblin, no idea, they are investigating allegedly.

@allinthelineofduty yep, no other correspondence, just the cheque.

@GeminiRising I'll check that out. They said they are investigating.

@DanielRicciardosSmile it's too late, because they said they know of no reason why we should have it. The implication being we do not have a right to the money. Just spoke to DH though and he said they are investigating. Knowing Virgin, it will be 6 months before we hear back

@BarbaraofSeville, no we've been with them for more than a decade. Going to check out GeminiRising's Ofcom thing to see if it's that though

@GeminiRising, I believe we have a winner!

Notably, In addition, customers who move house within Virgin Media’s network, and retain its services, will no longer have to sign up to a new minimum-term contract to avoid paying early-exit charges. Instead, they can now continue their existing contract at their new address.

That would be us.
