Are Text Messages replacing birthday cards

Some of my family seem to think a Happy Birthday text message is ok instead of a card. I know these are modern times but I think its sad not to see birthday cards on display! I definitely agree with cutting down on gifts but cards are still nice.

I have never been a fan of cards tbh. I got two for my birthday earlier this week and it hadn’t even crossed my mind I didn’t have more tbh.

I do buy for close family generally

Aren't card shops booming? I had the choice of paperchase, scribbler and careld factory on one street when I went looking for one this lunchtime.
I love a card and for me a message will never replace one. I'm very save the planet in a lot of ways but cards aren't an issue for me

I like both cards and FB depending on the person. For most of my good friends, Facebook is good because I can write a nice message and I always look for a fun GIF to go with the message, something that reminds me of them so it is more card-like. For some friends who I used to write cards to I continue doing that because of fond memories and we don’t see each other much and the message is more like a letter, but we will probably also do FB posts. My mum and I always send a card and a text because she is not into tech and like writing cards but the text arrives on the day and is an extra little “thinking of you” message. I don’t think it has to be all or nothing!

All cards are a complete pointless waste of time. Nobody should bother.

“Receiving cards is a hassle now is it ”

I guess that’s a reply to my comment.

To me, yes it is. I have to find and buy appropriate return cards, compose and write a personal message, queue up in post office, buy stamps, use that annoying automated post office till system.

Luckily I only have a handful of friends (perhaps as a result of my card hating tendencies). But those I do have are close and I see regularly for proper personal greetings.

I can understand cards for friends/relativels that are geographically distant (we send cards to relatives in Australia for example). But sending and receiving from all and sundry can be stressful insomuch that you have to organise who wants one back, who expects one back, who needs a thank you card in return etc.

I know this makes me sound like a grumpy so and so, But I’m fortunate that my small circle of friends think the same.

I’m useless with cards 😂never sent one Xmas or birthday card this entire year. Didn’t even get my five year old one !
