Toddler sleep attire

Posting for traffic!

My 20-month old has lately started waking up quite frequently in the night and I'm wondering if it might be because he's cold? We bedshare, but he doesn't have any covers over him. He wears a short-sleeved vest and a footed babygro at the moment. Is this too little? I've been looking at sleep sacks (ones from Slumbersac where he could have his feet free). Does anyone have experience with sleep sacks? Do they make such a difference?

Also, as well as warmth, the sensation of covers is generally very nice and calming, so I'd never leave him without a sleeping bag. In summer when it's really hot he sleeps in a nappy and a super thin 0.5 tog breathable sleeping bag.

If you look up sensory/weighted blankets on google you'll see the info/research about how people find covers soothing.

Sleeveless vest, full set of long sleeve PJ's and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag DD is 2. Socks if it is particularly cold. She is in her own room.

16 month old is in with us but has a cot side-carred to our bed so we can have the duvet to ourselves. He’s in a longsleeved vest and cotton pjs, and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag. He’s an active sleeper but doesn’t seem bothered by the bag and can still roll all over the place and contort himself in it (and get out of bed and shuffle like a penguin to get into whatever mischief is available the wee pest Wink)

Thanks everyone! I think I'll order a 2.5 tog and see how we get on. Fingers crossed this is going to be a magic solution to more sleep! Grin

@Verbena87 my 2.5yo shuffles about in his sleeping bag too Grin and he climbed out of his cot in it last week so the sides are now off 😂

We also cosleep with dc who kick off covers and when cold just snuggle closer. 20m was a major sleep regression with my dc- it could be just one of those developmental things, but no harm to add some layers in case it's cold related as we're hitting a bit of a cold snap! (I'm assuming you're in the UK too).

CardinalCat · 10/01/2019 22:46

(I think it also depends on the nature of the cosleeping- ours is very tactile and I'll wake in a tangle of sticky limbs, as body heat keeps us warm. If you're not touching then your child will need a cover or sleep bag of some sort. If you sleep snuggled or holding each other then that could be overkill even on a cold night - it really depends on your sleeping style).

I’d also recommend snugglers. Although my DS now sleeps naked since being potty trained! Crazy boy.

I would put him in a grobag or a fleece sleep suit. My DD would have been in a grobag on top of our covers when she was a baby/toddler. My DS would never wear a grobag and would never keep a blanket on him so he wore fleece sleep suits.

I've got a lot more fat padding on me than the average 20month old, and I'd not be happy if you expected me to go to bed at night with no quilt / sleeping bag / blanket on top of me! Shock
Of course they need bedcover / sleeping bag.

We co sleep with two month old who hates covers. He only has pjs (top and trousers, no feet) and isn't cold at all. What's the temp. in your house like? Ours is around 20℃.

user1471426142 · 11/01/2019 02:32

Depends on room temp and the toddler. Around that age mine refused sleeping bags and basically started taking off all of her clothes at night because she was too hot. I’m lucky now if she keeps on her pyjamas.
