Hi this is my first time posting. My 8 almost 9 year old daughter has very hairy legs and yesterday made a comment about how hairy they are now. She hasn’t asked to get rid of the hair yet and doesn’t seem to be self conscious but I want to be prepared for the day she asks about it. What is the best hair removal for a child this young I’m not a naturally hairy person shave my legs maybe every three to four months and only get one patch of hair anyway and it’s blonde so I’m way out of my depth on this one. The hair is black but very fine. Any help would be appreciated

I would wait for her to request the removal first. Then try either a gentle hair removal cream or shaving. Waxing and epilating are incredibly painful so I'd wait til she was a teen before suggesting those.

I wouldn’t use chemicals on a child. An electric ladyshave might be safest.

I agree with gentle hair removal cream, do a patch test first though just in case of reaction. I applaud you for thinking ahead and being open to it. I had thick dark hair on my legs as a child and was teased awfully for it. My mum refused to let me remove it so I stole my Dad's razor one day and cut my legs to pieces. After that my parents showed me properly how to do it, perhaps they didn't realise how upset it was making me but it would have been so much easier if they'd listened in the first place.

I got my dd a razor from Wilkinson sword and it's got a cage over the blades so you can't cut yourself. Then I got a Phillips Lumea. Seems to be working, it certainly works on me.

I agree with the idea of an electric ladyshave, she won’t be able to cut herself and it will trim it down so it’s barely noticeable.

When I first wanted to remove my underarm hair my mum made me use Veet (think it was Immac then!) as she didn’t like the idea of me shaving. I personally think a ladyshave, or even a proper razor with soap and warm water, is a far better option than all those chemicals though! Confused

I bought my DD's electric razors around 10, not to encourage them exactly but kids can be cruel and underarm hair is ridiculed.

Please educate her AND help her. I’ve said this before my mother felt I was child at 8/9 and thought no was looking at my legs but other children can be so cruel. I resorted to using a craft knife to shave my legs.

In your position I’d buy her a few things and show her how they work and let her decide. It’s a natural step to respecting the fact her body is entering pubity and womanhood.
