I love to hear stories about the funny antics, and the brave ones, the kind ones...that animals get up to whether wild or tame.
Would you share yours please to cheer up a cold winter's night?
(Please, this is a fun thread, not for the "animals should be under rigid control 24/7 out of control is not acceptable 'brigade please.most animal owners ,walkers, sitters, handlers or trainers or photographers have had something happen!even with the best trained in the world, sometimes things just occur.🐶💖

Once at a reservoir my German Sheppard dog and I were watching a mother duck leading about six ducklings plus an extra one at the back of the group whom she kept turning on and chasing away.this tiny duck would gamely try and remain the ducklings several times but mum duck was having none of it.
After a while my dog jumped into the water and swam to the rejected duckling, took hold in his mouth, swam back and very gently laid him, totally unhurt,at my feet.I think he had seen the rejection and decided I'd be a good mum.
(I rang the rspca for advice,in case you're wondering what happened to the duckling, the inspector came out and said the duckling was safer away from the mother duck but too tiny to be alone so took him back to the rspca home).
The dog,Jack, was so soft.when our car had kittens he would stand still as they scrambled over his paws and take really high, delicate steps to avoid treading on one.when they were a few weeks old they would scramble up the sofa then climb onto his head and slide down his long glossy cost to his tail which the would play with before having another slide!he say there as good as good the whole time.

I’m glad the duckling was okay. Maybe it was a lost cygnet. 😂

Our family cat was so sweet and clever. She could walk across a mantle piece and not knock a single item off. But once she curled up on a cooling cake. It must have looked warm and comfy. She was chased off it but we weren’t very well off so my mum iced the cake and we ate it anyway.

I once had a horrible migraine and my sweet cat curled herself around the top of my head. We I woke up the migraine was gone. She had a very bitchy meow though! Grin

Florries · 09/01/2019 22:04

Great thread! DCat got really concerned the other day over the baby crying she came and sat in my back as I was hunched over the baby changing his nappy.

Was so weird but so sweet.

DDog bloody loves the baby too.

Many years ago our working terrier had a litter of planned puppies. (We had homes for them all in advance). She was very close to both of us and MIL was horrified that we wanted the puppies and her in the house. She reckoned she needed somewhere quiet on the farm. She was a much loved house dog who often slept in the bed. MIL kept saying she wouldn't want us near the puppies.

We set up a nest for her in the sitting room. First night I heard her padding into the bedroom and jump up onto the bed. Then go down again. I put the light on to find her carrying the puppies in one by oneShockso I relocated them and her back to the sitting room and I slept there with her until they went off to their new homes. We lost her last year age 15. I miss her so much.

I have a house rabbit, he is full of mischief. When we first had him, he used to find himself in all sorts of situations - we found him sat on a shelf on the sideboard in the living room, he'd knocked all the photo frames off the shelf but was really impressed with himself. Grin

I love the absolute paws off him, he's amazing company!

I am sure this will be a great thread but ,
when our car had kittens made me chuckle , is your car a jaguar by any chance ? Grin

tazzle22 · 09/01/2019 22:17

Great idea.... lots quite a few tales but the one that divides opinion into either "aw, so sweet" or " yuk"

Many years ago when my now almost 40 year old daughter was a toddler our family included a border collie that was with us before dc. She had always " looked after" my dc, would protect the pram with low growls to any stranger coming near if I indicated any uncertainty and would lie near them when they were crawling etc.

Dd was in "potty training " mode and was wandering around without a nappy for a bit. I saw her start to sit but not on potty but before i could get there ddog had caught the extruding solid product and was licking dd clean Blush. .

Confirmed my opinion that ddog thought dd her puppy Grin

allwalkedout · 09/01/2019 22:20

I don’t have a funny story but when I was growing up, I always wanted a dog and was t allowed. Got married and DH was dead set against having one. I finally convinced him to get one before Christmas and finally have the puppy I’ve wanted all my life. I’m absolutely in love with her...I think I genuinely love her as much as my kids.
I’m currently unwell and she’s lying snuggled into me while we watch T.V.

My old girl was a whippet / greyhound cross. Her muzzle was the perfect shape for plunging into a cup. Nobody's cup of tea was safe.

What a sweet little bun! He is a nice boy!

We have three cats. They can be pretty funny. One of them, Mr. Bigglesworth (large ginger tom) practically ADORES Hubby. We suspect that in the Biggie universe Daddy hung the moon. A few days ago, Hubby was sitting at the computer. Our other male cat, Gatsby (small grey tabby) jumped into his lap. Biggie looked up from the floor and was quite incensed to discover that someone ELSE was sitting on HIS DADDY'S LAP. Biggie proceeded to spend the next few minutes nudging Hubby's legs to try to see if he could get up there too. (There wasn't room.) Meanwhile, Gatsby was snuggling in Daddy's lap and generally enjoying himself. Finally, Biggie walked off in a huff and settled himself on the floor. Eventually he made his way over to MY lap. I think he figured Mum was better than nothing Smile

Biggie also smiles when he is petted, especially if Daddy is doing the petting. He is very responsive, purring whenever he is petted. Hubby often talks to him and Biggie always purrs for him. Once Hubby said to me "What?" in the tone he usually uses for Biggie. Biggie, who was nearby, replied, "Chirp?" Hubby looked at him and said, "Not you, pal."

agnurse · 09/01/2019 22:22

Forgot to add that a few days later, Biggie hopped into Daddy's lap. Gatsby did not look very impressed. I think Biggie got his own back Grin

Back in the day, my then young cavalier went for a walk with me in the summer where there was a huge lake. She was enjoying the smells and the grass and saw lovely green grass on the lake so off she ran ... straight into the duck weed, and sank up to her flappy ears.

paintinmyhairAgain · 09/01/2019 22:24

what great stories, we have always had guinea pigs and buns, for the last few years residing indoors. they are such great characters and there are so many fun stories i could share, but it would go on for pages. one of our piggies is called blossom and she is very entitled and it's all about me attitude. she likes attention on her terns, and will soon let you know if things aren't right. she is very close to dd and loves sitting up on her shoulder. blossom loves to poses for photos and loves to rest in her bedroom door way looking into the kitchen watching her humans doing their thing especially when the fridge door is opened she squeaks as she knows piggy picnic food is kept in it - celery carrots etc.

Scienceforthewin · 09/01/2019 22:26

We had a BIG greyhound. House rules included no jumping up in the kitchen - 4 feet on the floor. Christmas Day we were eating lunch and heard this odd noise. A licking noise. We rushed into the kitchen and the cheesecake had been left too close to the edge of the worktop and there was Max licking it up - with all 4 of his feet on the floor, stretching all he could Grin such a good boy Grin

buckingfrolicks · 09/01/2019 22:26

I had a jack russellwho ate a long dead pheasant while out on a walk. He was dragged off but had eaten quite a bit.

He whines and whinged in the car all the emery home I assumed out it annoyance at not getting his way. Let out of the car (safe detached garden) he was jet-propelled around the garden by his own diarrhoea.

KarmaStar · 09/01/2019 22:26

My mum used to have a lurcher which was brindle with white paws. The brindle markings gave him a striped effect. One day she was coming out of a shop with him (back in the days they let you take dogs on shops) and a little boy squealed and said “Look Mummy, a tiger!”

KarmaStar · 09/01/2019 22:29

Angie..yes sorry it was definitely a cat 🐱 that had kittens but quick thinking there!😀

We have a new puppy, hence the user name !
When we were introducing her to the bunny, she got too excited and scared the bunny, less than 2 seconds later she was crying because the bunny had bit her on the leg. She's very calm and wary of the bunny now.
She also stole a chilli off the side, that did not end well !

Avonandice · 09/01/2019 22:35

We were minding a friends ferrets while they were away and during the final rampage round the lounge before bed I managed to misplace one. Got the other 5 into the cage where they promptly passed out with exhaustion while I ripped apart the lounge. No sign of him, pulled apart the kitchen - still no sign. Went upstairs to get a hammer and suchlike so i could rip cupboard bases off incase he had managed to get through them.Heard giggling from DD2s room and went in to find said ferret snuggled up and snoring in bed with her. He had decided that bed was better than ferret beds.

DowagerDuchessOfSass · 09/01/2019 22:35

Not my cat, but my mum's uncle had a cat he adored. It was a fat, spoilt beast. My mum's aunt hated the cat. Why? Let me illustrate this with three examples.

  1. Uncle would buy the cat an entire rotisserie chicken every Tuesday, yet never really bothered to have anything to do with meal prep at home.

  2. They had a lovely pond with a little water run", kind of like a little stream around it, filled with goldfish. But not for long, because the cat kept catching the fish when they went around the pond in said stream until they were all gone. Aunty was livid.

  3. Worst for last. They had a lovely christmas tree with glass ornaments, candles, the works. They HAD. Because kitty decided to jump into the tree and take it down. My mum and her family (mum was a kid then) arrived around 15 minutes after the incident and reportedly it was utter carnage and no christmas spirit left in the house Grin

Ollivander84 · 09/01/2019 22:42

My cat worships me, beyond belief. He never gets enough of being cuddled and kissed and squished with bear hugs. He can say mama Hmm and I have to sit on the bed before I leave for work, he runs in the room and jumps on the bed for his "5 minute cuddle"
This is his adoring face, he likes nothing better than to gaze at me 24/7 Confused

My friend has the most gorgeous and gentle golden retriever imaginable, called Benji.

A few years ago, her family also acquired two guinea pigs. Benji licks the guinea pigs all over and carries them in his mouth as if they were puppies - and they don’t mind at all. They love him and he loves them.

Rockmysocks · 10/01/2019 05:46

I have a rescue cat who was pretty ferocious for a while but 5 years down the line she's mellowed and enjoys being fussed but still has triggers.

One day I got news my lovely uncle had died and was sitting on the sofa crying. Just me in the house. I felt tapping on my shoulder and jess had jumped up on the arm of the sofa and was giving me the sweetest kindest slow blink look. Am sure she wanted to comfort me. Love her to bits.

JudiDenchsBloomers · 10/01/2019 06:31

I just love that picture Ollivander how very sweet.

My DCat was a street cat who found us when we lived in the ME. She is the funniest little creature, tons of personality. DH and I were having an argument on the sofa last week and mid DH flow, she walked up to him, put her paw on his arm as if to say "please stop it" and when that didn't work, rubbed herself around his arms. When he got up and stropped off, she came over to me and climbed into my arms and cuddled me like a baby would, both paws on my shoulder, head snuggled under my chin. She's done the same when I burst into tears a few months ago (non DH related!) she just knows when you need that comfort.
