To ask for your recommendations for Sun a £9.50 holidays

Posting here for traffic.

We are trying to cut costs this year and have decided to go on a £9.50 sun holiday.

We have done this in the past and had very mixed results. We have had amazing holidays in europe (pre children) and had one lovely holiday at riviera sands in Cornwall but had a terrible time at Burnham on sea and grange over sands.

AIBU to ask you where you have been and where we should try or avoid?

Kessingland Beach in Suffolk and one in Woolacombe in Devon, both lovely (Kessingland being my favourite).

it really £9.50 per person? School holidays?

Its £9.50 per night. European ones were £15 per night. Then there will be park charges. But its still vastly cheaper than booking direct with the company e.g. a week in the caravan we stayed at last year was £187 including all fees and would have cost £800 booking direct with Eurocamp.

@LagunaBubbles it's £9.50 per person. But you always have extras, linen, entertainment passes etc but it is much cheaper than booking directly.

Hendra Holiday Park, near Newquay.

LagunaBubbles · 09/01/2019 22:33

Ours was £15 per night or maybe it was £15 per person?
Out of the £187 £50 was charged by the park. So holiday was only £137.

woodwaj · 09/01/2019 22:37

Golden Sands Rhyl is nice. During term time it's £15 pp minimum 4 people out of term time it should be 9.50 + whatever the park adds on linen passes etc.. good value for money though

IchWill · 09/01/2019 23:06

We go to Bunn Leisure us Selsey every year. It's lovely.

froomeonthebroom · 10/01/2019 07:37

Term time it's £9.50 per person per holiday (fri-mon or mon-fri). There are then charges for entertainment passes if you want them. Haven charges a small supplement and if you want bed linen you have to pay to hire it. Ours always came out under £100.

School holidays are the same but £15 per person. There is less choice of caravan park too (Haven generally not available) so we've stopped going.

Another vote for hendra near Newquey. Great park and really helpful staff. It's about a 5 minutes drive into Newquay.

OneFootintheRave · 10/01/2019 21:47

Avoid at all costs the one (Pontins I think it was called) near Camber Sands, though looking back what on earth would yo expect for a tenner?

Just horrible on every level. A freezing, grubby, plywood hutch that was apparently a "chalet" - the cavernous "nightclub" with a sticky carpet, belting out the Macarena. Hearing foul mouthed, pissed-up arguments through the paper thin walls. Just hideous, I'd rather spend the tenner on a trip to the pictures.

The nearby village was quite nice though, but then...back to the hell hole Shock

UhUhUhDennis · 10/01/2019 23:26

Yeah avoid pontins in general. Worth a TripAdvisor check before booking but genuinely you can't go wrong with a Haven wherever it is.

JustBeingJobless · 10/01/2019 23:43

Haven sites are generally good. Park at California Cliffs near Great Yarmouth and Ty Mawr in North Wales are quite nice sites. Avoid Pontins like the plague!

Abroad, I would definitely recommend Duinrell in the Netherlands. That’s what I’m staying up late for on Saturday night in the hope of managing to book!

Redyoyo · 11/01/2019 00:30

We book through breakfree holidays the same type of deal every year, we normally book a few weekend or midweeks as an extra to our summer holiday abroad.
The past couple of years we've been to Haggerston Castle, Lakeland, Berwick, Reighton Sands, Seton Sands and Cala gran. I've just booked Haggerston again for the Easter holidays for £140 the same holiday direct with Haven is £300.
The only swingers we've seen are the kids in the play parks!
I'd echo the pp who says stick to Haven parks and you can't go wrong.

SummerSoup · 22/01/2020 09:50

I've just booked Southerness (Parkdean) in Dumfries for £95 for two people for three nights (inclusive of service charges and entertainment passes). Would have been £180 direct so pleased with this price. NB they charge parties of

Another vote for the woolacombe one , the one nearer the cliffs.
Also stayed at one south of Bude nearer the sea ( not the wooded one which sounded a lot nicer ) that wasn’t so good.
