To ask how to get rid of greasy hair?

I have oily skin so I think an oily scalp too. I could wash my hair in the evening and it'll be greasy by the morning so I have to wash it again. I know I could change this by going longer periods without washing it but I physically can't because of work! Has anyone got any tips or advice on how to dry it out/stop the grease? It's driving me Insane!

A spray of dry shampoo and a blast with the hairdryer? Works for me

kaytee87 · 09/01/2019 12:42

Can you not wash it in the morning and then it's at least fresh during the day? Also try dry shampoo

Dermymc · 09/01/2019 12:43

The only way is going longer.

Next time you're off, leave it 2-3 days repeatedly. Your hair gets used to it.

Liberal use of dry hair shampoo helps too.
I can sometimes get 3 days from mine now after being a staunch everydayer.

You could go on roaccutane which will stop the greasiness, for a few months.
Apart from that, I don't think there is a solution.

AgathaMisty · 09/01/2019 12:46

Definitely start to go longer between washes. You can use dry shampoo during the process so that they don't notice at work. If you don't start now you'll be a slave to the daily washes and grease forever!

Wash it less often and use a powder, Rhassoul shampoo - moroccan lava clay. Leaves your hair silky and moisturised and gets rid of grease. Takes about 3-4 shampoos till it breaks the oil overproduction, use only half a teaspoon mixed with 3 tablespoons water, and only on the scalp. Massage it in and leave gor 60 sevonds or more. Dont tangle your hair whilst washing or drying.
Its your cleaning regime (too much stripping of natural oils) that causes your scalp to overproduce sebum. Breaking the cycle is the only way.
Long term also diet, good fats, nuts etc. but first the lava clay shampoo. Happy to recommend brands if u like.

I have greasy hair and the leaving it longer method doesn't work for me. Believe me, I have tried. The only thing that worked was being pregnant! I do find that if I blow dry my hair it is less vile the next day.

Porridgeprincess · 09/01/2019 12:50

Dry shampoo and less washing. It is not easy but works. Also be sure that the shampoo you use has no silicone in it as that can cause build ups and add to the look of greasiness.

Porridgeprincess · 09/01/2019 12:51

Oh and also, as a pp said, blowdrying helps and using product like mousse etc helps

Drogosnextwife · 09/01/2019 12:53

Sea salt based shampoo. I use a soap bar from lush called seanik, its blue and has little bits of seaweed in. I use it because my new or is so fine and it cleans it really well so there's no oil left. My hair lasts for a good 4 to 5 days withought a wash when I use it. Leather rinse repeat × 3.

A friend of mine says she dyes her hair to get rid of the grease, as the dye dries it out

Cheerbear23 · 09/01/2019 13:01

Elvive Clay shampoo in blue bottle has got me from everyday to every other day. I even did 3 days this week using dry shampoo. It it didn’t feel particularly nice!
I don’t think leaving it too long is desirable either as scalps are oil producing.
