Can I use a hairdryer in hotel room at night?

I’ve been travelling all day and just arrive at my hotel. I feel gross and want to shower before bed. Is it acceptable to have the hairdryer on past midnight in a hotel though? I’m here for a conference, I don’t know who’s next door to me but it might be somebody I know. I don’t stay in posh hotels much (this one os very nice, 4 star) how soundproofed are they?!

I’d do it. White noise from the hairdryer is quite soothing to go to sleep to anyway

Work nights in a hotel and deal with all sorts of noise complaints from adjoining rooms. But drying your hair as long as it's not for hours should be fine, even if it disturbs someone by the time they've quietly fumed, got out of bed, contacted reception and the duty manager has gone up you'll be done anyway.
I document every noise complaint I get in the hope it might encourage the powers that be to do something about soundproofing 🙅
And if staying in a hotel you can't expect complete silence all night, prolonged or loud noise is something else but as others say you have people arriving/leaving at odd times and there will never be complete silence in a hotel.

You have to dry your hair if it's wet. Go to sleep with wet hair on a pillow and it will go mouldy.
