Rant alert, feel free to ignore!

Have bought bambino mio nappy birth to potty set which is probably the most expensive outlay for ds so far and I have to wash the bloody covers everytime!!

I've tried the "poo catcher2 fold, the simple fold etc etc and it still gets on the liner and stains the seams...even after I've put them in the machine aaaahhhh! Starting to think it's some sort of conspiracy by company to get you to buy more covers.

Anyone else had this problem or is it just that I've been spoilt by using disposables for the past 13 wks?

haha yes, you're being unreasonable. they're for poo-ing on, of course they're going to stain.
Pray for some nice sunshine and hang them outside and it'll bleach it off.

If leaks is the problem then prefolds are probably not the best choice of nappy TBH. have you tried just using terry squares instead?

Indith · 28/06/2007 21:11

Erm, it is poo. Poo stains. But tis true the sun bleaches it all off! My nappies get all stained when it rains and they can't go out but one morning on the line outside and they are all shiny again.

Roskva · 28/06/2007 21:12

Tbh, I never worried if the covers stained - I knew they were clean once they came out the wash. And Fingerwoman is right, if the sun ever deigns to come out, it works wonders on stain removal!

CarGirl · 28/06/2007 21:13

yep YABU but prefolds are not the best for containing runny poo and sun will help bleach the stains out, sometimes a squirt of shout or similar on the wraps would not be the end of the world either. HTH

bookthief · 28/06/2007 21:15

Even if you hang them on a clothes horse inside the stains will bleach out if they are in direct sunlight. Tis part and parcel of the reusables game unfortunately.

On the upside, once the poo is more solid it'll stop getting on the wraps so much, if at all.

mamabear2b · 28/06/2007 21:22

Like the sunlight idea cheers

Understand that poo stains Indith my problem is I can only use the covers once before it needs washing.
With 3 covers per size this means after 3 nappy changes it's off to the washing machine...makes a full day out a little difficult.

Bookthief...here's to solid poo!

Soak them in borax, great for re-fluffing towels!!
(Just read that back and sound like the Barry Scott from the Cilit Bang advert

CarGirl · 28/06/2007 21:23

invest in some more wraps (or try shaped nappies) you could post a wanted ad here and on the nappy lady and I'm sure the offers would be flooding in for 2nd hand ones.

Indith · 28/06/2007 21:28

Ah yes I can see how surviving with 3 covers is tricky! Tis true that prefolds are not renound for their containment. Poo does become less explosive though but most people, even with shaped nappies have more wraps for newborn, poo always will explode!

CarGirl · 28/06/2007 21:29

I used the older bumbles (nippa) with my youngest 2 and they were so fanatastic I'm not sure there were any poo explosions that got to the wraps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were so fab!

mamabear2b · 28/06/2007 21:30

Cheers Cargirl hadn't thought of that, still quite new to the site

Rantinghousewife cheers for the tip and when I get cross at having to wash the covers next time I'm just going to remember that phrase "BANG.. and the dirt is gone"! not sure it should make me giggle as much as I am, it's probably nappy bucket fumes!

OP posts:
rantinghousewife · 28/06/2007 21:32

Mamabear2b, rofling at the nappy fumes bit!!

CarGirl · 28/06/2007 21:32

please reassure us that you are dry pailing and not wet pailing???

mamabear2b · 28/06/2007 21:37

Oh god..what the hell is pailing??!!!

You see, I'm clueless should have got a dog...all you need is a pooper-scooper and a lead!!

I chuck delightful mess (less liner) straight into lovely silver bucket with a lid and then throw into washing machine in manner of zoo keeper chucking fish at polar bear...quickly and from a distance!!

bookthief · 28/06/2007 21:42

You want to get yourself over to the nappies board pronto missus! There's a whole world out there for you to discover . Many experts such as Flamesparrow who will take you under their wing.

You are dry pailing btw (good). Wet pailing is when people soak their nappies in a bucket of Napisan or similar and then you get minging nappy run-off to dispose of [boak emoticon].

CarGirl · 28/06/2007 21:45

yes dry pailing much easier! My next big tip is stick everything in the machine do a rinse then do a full wash especially excellent when dc are much older and teething and produce the most horrific smelling wee.

mamabear2b · 28/06/2007 21:50

Wow, it's so true that when one door shuts...(sleep, adult conversation, ever having 1 minute peace etc) another one opens : minging nappy run off and pailing no less.

Ahh the joys of motherhood!!
Cheers for all the advice off to prowl the nappy and 'for sale' boards before doning marigolds and mask and heading for the w/machine

Woz about to go prowling but thought I'd do a quick refresh....horrific smelling wee?!!
Why? why? why?

JennsterFrogLover · 28/06/2007 22:06

Ooooh yes. And when you aren't using 6-10 nappies a day, and you don't wash so frequently..... don't breathe the ammonia. I'm not sure I could cope with only 3 wraps though!

Roskva · 29/06/2007 11:11

I can manage on 3 wraps with shaped nappies and airflow wraps, but needed 6 wraps with prefolds. Now dd is bigger, I stuff the prefolds in pocket nappies - fuzzi bunz are my favourites at the moment.
