All I hear about them is that they go on strike / fine and charge for everything/ cancel /shite planes. Etc etc.

Would you let this put you off?

Adddont mind racists to the list

InspectorIkmen · 08/01/2019 21:41

I just wouldn't fly Ryanair under any circumstances. Reviews/charges/horrid staff - none of it swings me more one way than the other. I think Michael O'Leary is an atrocious human being and all I can do about that is not give him any of my money!

Didntwanttochangemyname · 08/01/2019 21:42

I've flown with them a few times and it's just so bloody awful, I have vowed never again!

Meadowland · 08/01/2019 21:49

We fly with Ryanair a lot and have never had a problem. Always on time, no hidden charges if you take the time to read the terms and conditions, and excellent value for money compared with many other airlines.

Bombardier25966 · 08/01/2019 21:50

I've flown with them countless times and, as long as you don't bring oversized luggage, you're fine. For all the moaners they are one of the most popular airlines in Europe with an excellent safety record.

The planes are not shite. It's economy, it is what it is. The legroom is the same or greater than other economy carriers.

They have had strikes but so have BA, AF etc. They happen across the aviation industry.

They get you from A to B. What more do you need on shorthaul?

Bombardier25966 · 08/01/2019 21:51

@Didntwanttochangemyname Can you be more specific please?

notacooldad · 08/01/2019 21:54

I have flown with them a once a month ( sometimes more) for the last 4 years and never had a problem.
You read the rules and play the game.

My DS has also flown with them very regularly. He has only had one problem with them about strikes and that was last year. He was due to fly out on a Saturday morning and return home on Sunday morning but the Saturday a.m. flight was cancelled. He was offered a flight on Saturday evening but declined it.
My last trip was in December and my next trip is next week.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 08/01/2019 21:56

We normally go Ryanair due to them being the only reasonable option for where we want to fly to. Never had any issue with them. Only 1 flight delayed (we've flown at least 10 journeys with them). They do add on charges but normally still work out cheaper than all the others.

Yulebealrite · 08/01/2019 21:57

I must admit I avoid flying with them.

Guineapiglet345 · 08/01/2019 21:58

No, if I could only afford to go Ryanair then I’d rather not go at all.

stopitandtidyupp · 08/01/2019 21:58

I have flown with them and not had any problems. You are right though all you hear is negative about them.

I have heard people say similar to you.

SushiMonster · 08/01/2019 21:58

They are fine. Just just have to work within the parameters they set.

Pay to sit together if you want to sit together.
Pay for luggage if you want Luggage.
Don’t expect any assistance if things go wrong.

As an able bodied quick fingered solvent adult I have appreciated their ‘the flight is ducked, have a refund and sort yourself out stance’ and been able to chose my own solution for overcoming travel disruption.

notacooldad · 08/01/2019 21:58

I'm suprised about people moaning about staff. Hand on heart I have always found them pleasant.
I just view the trip as a bus ride. I am not after frills or luxury to get get me from Leeds to main land Europe.

As much as I like Ryanair for cheap flights I am happy to find sometimes that I am on a Lufthansa flight. I may only be nipping to Frankfurt and they still feed me!! I'm easily pleased!

GassyAss · 08/01/2019 22:02

I refused to fly with Ryanair for years after some awful experiences. However, I used them last year for a weekend break with my friend and it was all good.
That said, I'm not sure I'd use them for the family. DD1 has disabilities and I don't trust them to give us the assistance we need.

Holly2019 · 08/01/2019 22:04

Im crew for Ryanair, so thank you, notacooldad. We are a low cost airline, I have flown with them as a passenger (without the crew knowing I was crew) and never really experienced problems with the airline itself. A lot of the problems are because people don't read the small print or with the airport you're flying out from.

malmi · 08/01/2019 22:06

Used them loads and they are FINE. You just have to follow their rules and not expect to be treated like Toffy McTofferton just because you're getting on a plane not a coach.

Bombardier25966 · 08/01/2019 22:06

@GassyAss Disability assistance is mainly provided by airport employed staff, so it will be the same service whichever airline you choose at the particular airport. If you contact Ryanair's special assistance line they'll arrange appropriate seating for your family. I'm disabled and have never had a problem with them.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 08/01/2019 22:14

There is not always a choice of airlines, depending on where you are travelling. A route I take regularly only has Ryanair as an option. I have rarely had any issues. Main one once was weather. Hardly their fault. I always find it amusing when people declare they'll never fly with them. I wonder what they do when there is no other choice

cassgate · 08/01/2019 22:18

Flown Ryanair at least 10 times now and never had a problem. They get me from a to b which is all I am after. I always look at other carriers and even after adding priority and checked bags they still come out cheaper. The price difference between them and the next cheapest for flights booked for May half term was over £100 per person.

Singlenotsingle · 08/01/2019 22:19

I live near Stansted and use Ryanair quite a lot. If you want to sit together pay a supplement. If you want more baggage than the one small case that's included, pay for it. Add it all up and it's still half the price of regular airlines.

StoneofDestiny · 08/01/2019 22:26

Michael O'Leary is an odious human being who makes no bones about the facts he finds his passengers just 'cattle' and as such don't need to be treated with any care. I'd rather avoid supporting a business owned by such a moron.

Hepzibar · 08/01/2019 22:27

YADNU

TakenForSlanted · 08/01/2019 22:28

I love Ryanair, they're hilariously atrocious: rude, unhelpful and utterly unprofessional whenever anything goes ever so slightly wrong.

My favourite feature of theirs is the lack of travel sickness bags. Not an issue until you run into that one fellow passenger with a weak stomach on a bad weather flight.

I genuineky enjoy them for all these reasons when travelling in a private capacity, but then I do have a twisted sense of humour. Wouldn't take them for a business trip ever. The lack of tray tables and space would make it virtually impossible to get any work done en route.

Eyewhisker · 08/01/2019 22:31

They’re totally fine. I fly them loads and have never had a problem. I much prefer Ryanair from Stansted than BA from Heathrow as they are always on time.

You do need to look up the luggage policy but now that there’s allocated seating and you can take a handbag, it’s fine.

Tigger03 · 08/01/2019 22:33

I fly with Ryanair about 3 / 4 times a year for breaks to Europe.

I fly from Manchester so the choice of airline is generally quite limited and I would actually always choose Ryanair over other budget airlines (e.g. EasyJet with its highly annoying ‘no handbag if you have a suitcase carry on rule’).

I’ve only been delayed with Ryanair once in all those times and it was handled as expected.

Overall, the price it offers has allowed me to take as many holidays as I do, so for me, as an adult able bodied light traveller they are perfect! I don’t need much more than a seat for a 2 / 3 hour journey!
