Hi I'm sorry for posting yet again about Anxiety, but I've tried so many things I tend to go downhill around the beginning of the month during and after my period, and pick up from the 12th-24th. I'm finally going to the GP but I'm scared to be honest with them and I'm scared they will just throw antidepressants at me and I'm scared that they will turn me suicidal as I've read that they can? I have tried magnesium, vitamin b12, 5HTP and a B complex since last week but haven't noticed much improvement yet. I just don't know what else I can try honestly I'm scared by it it's been a good solid 8 months now

I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression and prescribed sertraline. Best thing I did. I didn’t want medicine either

That's great news, op! I truly believe you have the power to manage your anxiety. There are so many resources out there to help support and educate you. I suggest you start a daily diary to make quick entries about how you feel every day. From there you may discover patterns you didn't recognise before. I also suggest that you give up caffeine if it's a part of your diet. My anxiety improved greatly when I have up tea and coffee. I found that my body just wasn't dealing with the caffeine anymore. Instead of a burst of energy, it made me very anxious. Remember to stay hydrated! Lots of water! Good luck!

Hi op just tell the Drs everything you have said here be honest 100 % no holding back anything if they say antidepressants do it. I was on mirtazapine for 8 months then I asked to go on citalopran I'm on 10mg a night and it just gives me that boost I need I noticed the difference within 3 weeks I am a lot happier. Xx good luck

Thank you everyone for all your help and support and @Aquamarine1029 I weirdly bought decaf tea bags too as I drink around 8-9 cups a day, and I was drinking coffee too until I realised that triggered me so much. I've also just bought some water bottles to carry around and drink too but I really need to find a hobby to get into I jus have no idea what my actual interests are as I've spent so long indoors Blushx

I'm glad it went well @anitagreen If you can maybe give the magnesium citrate a go, or at least keep up with the ones you have to see if they help. I would definitely recommend the Dare book for strategies tho, while waiting for cbt. If you don't fancy it, the bare bones of the idea are to try and dismiss the anxious thought (so think in your head something like "ah this is just my body being all silly, firing off adrenaline, whatever"), then accept and allow the anxious thoughts and feelings. That sounds hard but actually makes a massive difference. Then try and focus yourself on giving something else your full attention (hard at first but gets easier). There are some more things for panic attacks (basically challenging your body to do it's worst and make you feel as much panic as possible - sounds nuts but it does work and things just seem to melt away when you try it, I guess as it's removing the fear). Loads more info in the book but i know it's helped me immensely with getting a handle on things.

Great idea to cut down on caffeine as well. I hope you have some look finding a hobby. I definitely find learning something new helps me to get into a better frame of mind (current obsessions are crochet, learning to grow fruit and veg and fermenting things lol). I really hope you're feeling better soon

@misskatamari I've had a look and I'm going to order some I've also seen reviews about ashwaghanda no idea if I've spelt that right,
Spoke to the cbt people they said 20 more people ahead of me right now but I'll get there. I'm coping a lot better but I'm struggling still a lot to see that it will die down and be manageable soon it feels like it's been so long that this is my life now Sad

They probably won't offer you medication, more likely CBT as that is really effective for long term anxiety relief. I'm 10 weeks in and won't need it much longer, anxiety so so much better. Good luck X

Sorry - just read updates! Glad you're getting CBT. It'll be worth the wait. Maybe read up on it online in the meantime X
