To hate all the sodding daytime quiz and antique shows

I work from home. Often have the TV on for background noise distraction from doing real work .

Bloody daytime quiz shows are so annoying, vacuous, waste of airtime, cheesy unfunny jokes, awkwardly staged anecdotes, questions so easy an idiot could answer them, hosted by brain dead career end oompa loompas...I could go on.

And the antique shows are just as bad.

And I love both antiques and quizzes.

I really should be doing some work today!

I love Father Brown! Why its not peak time viewing I don't know!

The great thing about homes under the hammer is you actually get to see what they do with the property, nice and quickly. I can't bear the holiday property ones where they don't buy.

I watched Wanted Down Under today, I have no idea why the family thought they'd be able to buy a £400k house when their current property was worth £115 and their annual current income was £15k!! Awful.

Holiday showdown. I'd forgotten about that. And wife swap. Wish they'd bring them back.

I work from home and I record a lot to have on in the background also.

Working through the walking dead at the moment.

Listen to some podcasts. Lighthearted storytelling ones are good such as:

The Moth
Reply all
The Mystery Show
This American Life (It is American focus but they have a lot of interesting people stories that I think most people can relate to)

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 08/01/2019 14:42

But yeah I agree daytime tv is crap.

IAmALionessHearMeRoar · 08/01/2019 15:00

Thanks for all your suggestions! I may get properly distracted though if a programme is good and never do any work!!

My employer will hate you all Grin

I tend to turn off after the lunchtime news and politics as the afternoons are full of the rancid cheese they call 'daytime tv' (subject of the OP complaint). Radio goes on and I bop my way through the afternoon. Music though. No Radio 4. That's too good to have as background and I'd actually listen to it. Same goes for Netflix and Amazon Prime. That way unemployment lies.

Anyone else caught in the deep crevasse of Work From Home vs Lethargy/TV?

I'm getting lots of laundry done Wink

I recently won a lot of money on a daytime quiz show. Clearly because the questions were too easy Wink. I dont actually watch it though and only watched a couple as research when i found out i would be on it! It was a big jackpot for a daytime show which was part of the appeal! I must admit i like the chase but i class that as teatime rather than daytime (pedant alert) Grin

TheFaerieQueene · 08/01/2019 16:14

98% of all TV programming is shite.

IAmALionessHearMeRoar · 09/01/2019 09:30

@Piffyonarockbun Now that IS exciting!!! You won? I don't know anyone who has even been on a tv quiz show, let alone won money.

Do tell me more!! (obv without outing)

Finally someone said it. Such a brilliant programme. I forget who hosted it - was it Michaela Strachan? Anyway, Travel Man is a fairly solid replacement (and the host is hilarious) but it's not on during the day so you'll have to crack out 4OD for this show.

No 4OD on my TV though. So it's Homes Under The Hammer for me :(
