A shower, coffee and going out gets me feeling as good as I'm going to get.

Which isn't much! But short of taking drugs...

Flyingfish2019 · 08/01/2019 04:53

AGHH You mean for sleeping?

A hot shower and very sugary coffee. Multiple cups of it. If you've got time and can summon enthusiasm to get out the door, I find going for a run helps more than I expect it to - other exercise probably would too, bonus points if it's outside.

If it's a one-off night, you'll be a bit bleh today, but tomorrow will be fine. If it's one of many, well, in my experience you just get used to feeling a bit shit and performing below your best. I'm hoping when my children get bigger, I'll get to sleep properly again one day...

Flyingfish2019 · 08/01/2019 05:15

I hope the same... and in case of The children I am sure. My oldest is already a pretty good sleeper.

But dh has insomnia... and for some reason he sometimes wakes up screaming, for example this week he dreamed he was falling of a cliff. Oddly enough I sometimes have the same dream and never screamed. Well, I have heard that there typically is a mechanism that stops you from screaming if you are asleep but in his case it seems to be that there is something wrong with the mechanism.

Have to add none of us ever fell of a cliff. Weird both of us have nightmares about that.

Maybe they show the future, lol, just kidding. Do not believe in that,

Shower, coffee, get outside for fresh air.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 08/01/2019 05:27

Coffee, shower and wash hair/put on some make up (this makes me feel about 300% more like a functioning human) then get out into the daylight to really wake up. Obviously not helpful because it’s pitch black outside right now, but when the sun comes up.

AGHHHH · 08/01/2019 05:31

@Flyingfish20194 haha no I mean bad drugs. They would probably give you a kick
!

AGHHHH · 08/01/2019 05:32

Saying that I have just ordered melatonin because it's been too long.

Flyingfish2019 · 08/01/2019 06:27

But you are kidding, aren’t you? Not sure what I would do if somebody really told me he/she was gonna try a bad drug. Think there was nothing I could do to stop somebody via internet.

Yes of course I'm joking

GertrudeCB · 08/01/2019 06:33

Alternating strong coffee with ice cold water and lots of getting up and moving about. A power nap at lunchtime if possible.

Endofrelationship · 08/01/2019 06:37

I'll be showering then walking DS to nursery. Was supposed to be having a day off with him but I don't want him seeing me like this.

Hoping to get a nap later.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 08/01/2019 06:38

3 cups of tea, 2 cigarettes and inwardly berating yourself for not quitting smoking like you promised to- seems to work for me :(

RisingLikeAPhoenix · 08/01/2019 06:42

I need this thread this morning. I have been awake since 1.30 and could cry - I feel so tired.

2019Dancerz · 08/01/2019 06:50

I didn’t sleep presumably as stressed about going back to work. Knowing I had to get up really early prevented me from falling asleep, what’s that about? Hmm I won’t see daylight so other than coffee and will power not sure what will help. I imagine water and fruit might be healthier route!

Oysterbabe · 08/01/2019 06:50

I haven't slept in 3 years due to children. I've had my shower and nice coffee and by the time I've walked the 40 minutes to work I'll be feeling OK.

Pachyderm1 · 08/01/2019 06:51

Lots of water - hydration is essential. Shower and loud music. Good luck!

Nedzilla · 08/01/2019 06:56

Walking and fresh air

I used to sleep well but often not enough due to work schedule ie arriving home around midnight and then having to leave again by 6am occasionally.

If I walked the 30mins to work, I felt far more awake than if I took a taxi or the bus.

Miane · 08/01/2019 07:00

Apples are actually better for making you feel awake than coffee. The natural sugar releases slowly and there’s no post coffee “crash”.

Mokepon · 08/01/2019 07:02

Shower. Make-up.
Big cup of tea.
Fresh air.
Lots of water and fruit.
I also took a great tip from here which is when you wake don't automatically look at the clock. It puts you in this mindset of counting how few hours you've slept and definitely makes me feel worse.
So I simply accept if I'm awake and either read a book or come on here. Will often doze a bit before I have to get up but evem a cat nap is better than nothing.

cindersrella · 08/01/2019 07:16

Iv had a 4 year old bed invader therefore I have had no sleep hardly. Iv had a shower, got dressed come down stairs and had a coffee and banana on toast.

Now the invader has just found me 🥴

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 08/01/2019 07:44

Two cups of strong coffee and some protein for breakfast - bacon sandwich, omelette, scrambled eggs, anything like that. And then get outside for some fresh air, a brisk walk or a gentle run will make you feel ten times better. As a 20 year insomnia veteran, these techniques work, trust me!
