I am on sertraline for anxiety and I feel so much happier in myself, I have no intention of going off them any time soon!

MirandaWest · 07/01/2019 20:56

I am taking sertraline for anxiety. I have taken it in the past and was sick for a couple of weeks but this time there was weirdly no nausea even. Has helped me so much; am much more able to cope with life now.

LEMtheoriginal · 07/01/2019 20:56

Yes and i do. However some SSRI antidepressants are better suited for anxiety.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 07/01/2019 21:03

I would and do. I have major depression too but the antidepressants I take are mostly geared towards controlling the anxiety. The depression, I'm hoping will resolve with therapy. antidepressants do work for anxiety and very well but you do need to give them a proper chance. Why would anyone choose to feel like this when a non addictive and low risk drug has a good chance of working?

mintchick · 07/01/2019 21:05

I'm taking sertraline for severe anxiety and it's really helping me. YANBU

LuluMelons · 07/01/2019 21:05

For severe anxiety- yes

My anxiety is mild thankfully and exercise always does the trick.

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 07/01/2019 21:07

Sertraline are more anxiety not depression. Your doctor should have told you that.

bluejelly · 07/01/2019 21:09

Yes definitely. Lifesavers. Taking ADs is sooooooo much better than having anxiety.

RLOU30 · 07/01/2019 21:12

I’m taking setraline for anxiety. 100mg a day as my anxiety was severe and was making day to day like impossible. I’m a month in and aside from making me a little tired it has been a life saver. Take them x

DarienGap · 07/01/2019 21:17

I take citalopram 20mg daily for anx, along with propranolol 3 x 40mg daily.
I still have the occasional bad day so I shudder to think how bad it would be if I wasn't medicated.
Give it a go, your doc wouldn't recommend it if they thought it wasn't going to help.
Good luck Smile

MorganKitten · 07/01/2019 22:03

I would and have

peachgreen · 07/01/2019 22:05

Yea. Changed my life. Keep going OP. It'll be worth it.

nimski · 07/01/2019 22:25

I absolutely would (and do) most have an icky feeling when starting (and coming off them) but it passes.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 07/01/2019 22:28

I take citalopram and propranolol every day for anxiety.

That combination serves me very very well.

SargeantAngua · 07/01/2019 23:12

I take fluoxetine for OCD. I had CBT too, and thanks to that and the pills it's not severe crippling dont-want-to-get-out-of-bed-so-i-dont-have-to-touch-anything OCD any more, but the thoughts can still occur. I dont get the physical anxiety symptoms with them though now, so I can challenge the thoughts. I wasn't depressed but my life is much more pleasant with antidepressants. Take them, they really do help.

sonlypuppyfat · 07/01/2019 23:16

I'm torn by this DH had some prescribed before Christmas, I had to tell him to stop taking them because he started to act really weird and I was more than a little scared of him. Within a few days he was back to normal

Gormless · 07/01/2019 23:18

I took them and they saved my life. I’m so grateful every day that such medication exists.

Princess1066 · 07/01/2019 23:19

Thinking if you op - anxiety is a bitch - persevere but if you start to feel very bad go back to GP asap

Fishcakey · 08/01/2019 07:28

I have taken a low dose for anxiety and phobia for years. Takes the edge off. Honestly it changed my life.

peachgreen · 08/01/2019 12:16

@sonlypuppyfat Very foolish to tell your DH to stop taking prescribed medication. If the side effects were concerning he should have gone back to his GP, not stopped cold turkey.

Andjustlikethat · 08/01/2019 12:21

Take them. My appointment to discuss starting meds for anxiety and depression is tomorrow. I'm tired of feeling like I do and am no longer burying my head in the sand thinking it will get better by itself.

Take the meds.

proseccoaficionado · 08/01/2019 15:40

Of course, assuming of course they've been prescribed to you.

I understand it's a bit scary (I would be a bit scared too!), but they will help. I do not know anything about the possible side effects they might give (you were saying they make you sick), but I remember reading somewhere it gets worse before it gets better.

You should discuss possible side effects with your doctor.

Best of luck, OP!

sonlypuppyfat · 08/01/2019 17:26

peachgreen you can think what you like, it worked out for us

NutElla5x · 08/01/2019 17:32

Severe anxiety is crippling,so yes I would try anything. Why wouldn't you?

steff13 · 08/01/2019 17:32

Yes, I would and I do.
