to be worried about 8 week vaccinations?

My son is 11 weeks old today and has his first set of vaccinations on Friday. He's been a bit poorly on and off over the past couple of weeks so had the initial appointment delayed. I was (probably irrationally) worried about this as I was scared he would be unlucky and catch something in the interim!

He was quite poorly when he was born. He had over 20 heel pricks every day for 4 days, couldn't feed, needed lots of help and it was all very scary.

I remember how hard I found hearing him squeak every time he has those heel pricks and am worried I'll find him getting his vaccination quite upsetting.

I probably sound ridiculous, as it's only an injection and is really important, but can anyone share their experiences with me? Were your babies all okay after or did they feel poorly?

Probably worrying irrationally but I can't help it...

Calpol will not make a vaccination less effective. It is pain relief, and reduces temperature.
The vomiting case was likely unrelated to the vaccine.
You are doing the best for your child by ensuring they are protected against a life threatening illness.

They will probably scream yes. But only from the shock of the various jabs... just ask them to do the oral one first as if they are upset it's often hard to do that last!

Big hugs and boob/bottle ready to settle them. Calpol and a reliable thermometer to hand for after... they are likely to seem a little warm/off but it will pass. Get in some easy food/snacks and plan to have a few days snuggled on the sofa in front of Netflix just in case.

Perfectly understandable to worry! We all worry about our children and want to do the best for them.

Just bear in mind that as heartbreaking as the jabs are, it's better than the alternative

I was really really dreading the vaccinations with mine (PFB lol). He screamed at the 8 week one but settled straight on the boob, had calpol in the surgery waiting room and went to sleep. 3 monyhs he giggled at the nurse. 4 months he screamed again but in outrage rather than pain!
I realised beforehand that when they’re pricked they’ll cry more from fear than pain as they don’t understand what happened. So my job was to give him lots of positive vibes afterwards so he knew there was nothing to be afraid of.

My DD had her first vaccinations yesterday and I was so worried. I had been thinking about it every night for a couple of weeks! By the time I got there I was so worked up I was already nearly crying.
I brought my OH with me and decided that I couldn't be in the room so I left and stood outside.
I was ready for it to be awful.... I had read some terrible things and babies being really poorly after.
But she was completely fine! She did cry but no worse than she's cried before when she's been really hungry or over tired.
I went in as soon as they were done & cuddled her & she stopped crying pretty much straight away.
She was a bit more tired after and slept for longer than usual but other than that she was fine.
I feel sooooo silly for being so worried.
Honestly your DS will be completely fine!
On the doctors & health visitors advice I gave the first calpol before she had them & then gave her two more, six hours apart.
Please don't worry! All will be fine Thanks
