To think having to pay £30 more to change tattoo design before it has been done is ridiculous?

Found a decent tattooist, instagram/facebook popular, will be traveling a fair distance (hotel for the night) etc etc

Booked in for a tattoo, paid a deposit. Told them the design I wanted. A few days later I messaged and said oh could I just have a small bit changed, will the cost of the tattoo be the same. They said yes the price of the tattoo would still be the same but that an extra charge will be added because they already drew up my previous one on carbon paper so will need money for their time/carbon paper which will be £30??? I only asked for a small part to be changed.

AIBU to think this is unfair? It's not like I can cancel either as I'll lose my deposit.

I work with graphic designers - they wouldn’t charge until the design is signed off. After that they most likely would.

Why are people who have no tattoos themselves or any experience of tattoos even commenting?

It is ridiculous for the artist to charge £30 for a minor change. I have quite a few tattoos including a full sleeve on one arm. Ive used several different artist over the years. Not one of them has charged to make a change in the design. Even after tweaking the design a couple of times.

IWouldPreferNotTo Ridiculous comparison

So for you to even see the design in advance is pretty good. If you want to make changes then yes, I don’t see why you shouldn’t be charged, because they’ll have to draw up your tattoo again from scratch.

From scratch? For a minor change?
The print is just a template anyway, after it's stamped on your skin a small change can be then easily drawn with a pen. Or just freehanded.

I have multiple tattoos and it's totally norm to change bits of the design, even once it's been transferred onto your skin. I don't think I've ever had one where they'd printed out the carbon print in advance, how would they know how big you are? And it's totally normal to have to reprint anyway
