To be in summer house when baby asleep

Gym equipment in summer house in garden, 20m from house, we have no neighbours and house is completely fenced and gated, aibu to go there when my baby is having his morning nap? I've got a video monitor and the nursery is on the ground floor in house, I've not done it yet as feel un easy but would love to get going with losing the baby weight whilst he is asleep.

With a monitor absolutely fine

Absofrigginlootly · 06/01/2019 20:50

Nope. Especially not because baby’s room is on the ground floor.

Can’t you do a workout video in the house? Or take the baby for a run in a jogging pushchair?

Stuckforthefourthtime · 06/01/2019 20:51

I wouldn't, we've had monitors malfunction before without us realising. Or in the very very unlikely event of a fire or something.

Could you put the baby to sleep in the buggy (or a Moses basket) in or near the summer house?

MynameisJune · 06/01/2019 20:52

We have a gym in the garage, I fully plan to do this when our new baby arrives and is a bit older. At first she can sleep in the pram in the garage with me.

Absofrigginlootly · 06/01/2019 20:52

Also, how old is the baby?? A 3 week old no way on earth!!!! An 18 month old, still no but not as bad

MaryShelley1818 · 06/01/2019 20:53

I personally wouldn’t. I just wouldn’t feel right about it.

MynameisJune · 06/01/2019 20:53

Should add our house is detached and we’ve got 6ft locked gates so no one can get in legally without us knowing. It’s during the day, I don’t see any difference to hanging washing out, doing chores where you’re in and out the house.

MynameisJune · 06/01/2019 20:54

What exactly do people think is going to happen?

defineme · 06/01/2019 21:03

I would have done, you could be 20 metres away inside my house, you can see and hear them. The monitor would pick up smoke alarms etc too. What exactly will happen?

Flowerpot26 · 06/01/2019 21:05

Baby is 8 months, I've tried putting him in with me but he sleeps better in his cot and I have to be quieter, best he has a decent nap then we go on with our day, I feel un easy, i'm not sure why , I've left him for a few mins when I've gone to get the chicken eggs and hung washing out, but I think it's cus I want to do a 30 minutes workout, my monitor is great can hear every sound.

I would. You've got the baby monitor. It's not much different from hanging washing on the line, you're really not far from the house in the garden!

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 06/01/2019 21:06

Can always pop back in every 10 mins or half way.

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/01/2019 21:09

If you're not comfortable listen to that. For me 20 meters is too far but I know others will think it's fine. I'd worry about a fire and being so far away.

ourkidmolly · 06/01/2019 21:13

These are ridiculously catastrophic ott reactions. No wonder every second person is off to their GP with anxiety. You have a monitor and are 10 seconds away.

MynameisJune · 06/01/2019 21:14

Our bedrooms are easily 60+ft away from our living room. DD is 3, she’s been going to bed on her own since she was 6 months. We have a monitor. But if a fire broke out at that end of the house I could potentially not be able to get to her.

Was I supposed to stay upstairs all night for the next X amount of years. Or do I trust that our electrics are all up to date/standard. That we have smoke alarms and that we still have a monitor on her.

wheneverythinggoestitsup · 06/01/2019 22:29

Yes absolutely fine.
Shocked by some of the dramatic responses. What do people think is going to happen?

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 08/01/2019 10:27

@MynameisJune made a good point I didn't consider. I live in a 3 story town house. Living room bottom floor. Kitchen middle floor, bedrooms upstairs. My living room is closer to end of the garden that bottom floor to top floor
