AIBU to put 2YO in a midsleeper bed?

DD turns 2 in March and she is starting to outgrow her cot (60 x 120cm, not a cot bed). At the moment there is a divan single bed in her room but there is no space for a chest of drawers, bookshelf etc. I have managed to get hold of a midsleeper bed second hand with all of this integrated, with a ladder to climb up.

I can't decide whether it is OK to put her in this bed as it is a long way if she were to fall out. I was thinking if she doesn't know she can climb in and out (if we don't attach or don't show her the ladder) then she wouldn't try to get down and fall. She would just assume its like the cot and stay in.

FWIW she is quite "sensible" for her age and certainly not a risk taker. She has never tried to climb out of the cot or anything like that.

Opinions and alternative suggestions gratefullu received Smile

I wouldn't

My 2yo would fall out. I wouldn't do it. I suppose my kids were small so could stay in cot until like 4-5yo.

Definitely not. I wouldn’t even consider it before age 4 be even then it would be for a confident and physically capable child with a guard rail. Most Mid sleepers have a age guide of 6+.

Please don't. My then 3yo was a wriggly sleeper and managed to fall face first out of my bed, busting her lip, almost knocking out her two front teeth and giving herself concussion. From a normal height bed.

I wouldnt. My 2 and a half yo is still in a cot with the sides up! He lays in all sorts of positions!

Until he tries to climb out i wont be taking the sides off Blush

I really wouldn't. I once looked after a four year old who slept in one of those, she tried to lean out and toppled out head first - broken arm and hairline skull fracture - I know that's a freak accident and many under sixes sleep safely in them but I would say that the 6+ advice is there for a reason.
Do you actually need drawers and a book shelf? Is there storage under the bed you can use for clothes? Can you get a nice basket and put a small selection of books in and rotate them every few weeks?

Thanks for your opinions, sounds like its not a great idea!

No way. My 5yo has just gone into a midsleeper and he is definitely at the ‘young’ end of safe. He has slipped off the ladder once already.
In no time you will be potty training and she will need to be able to get out of bed, you can’t put her in it with no way to get out.

Don't they say kids should be 6yo for a mid sleeper? I always thought that was a bit old as my D.C. were good climbers and were ok at four yo, but no way at 2yo!

Rules = 6yo for high sleeper, 4yo for midsleeper, is what my brain remembers. DS fell out of midsleeper at age 4-5yo.
