To ask which position

You gave birth in?

I’m still 20 odd weeks away from giving birth but really starting to think about it.

I’ve watched copious amounts of one born every minute and they all seem to give birth laying on their backs. Is this the default position?

How did you give birth?

stood up leaning/almost squatting against a raised bed was a far better birth for me than on back (assisted delivery).

Four vaginal births; I found it much easier leaning against the side of the bed, rocking from back foot to front foot during the final stages of labour; on to bed, hands and knees when I got the urge to push. Baby arrived in just a few pushes after that; worked for all of mine except the last that I don’t talk about :) My advice would be - do whatever feels natural and comfortable for YOU. Walk if you want (and can), rock if you want (and can), lay down, sit up... whatever you feel your body is telling you to do and when it tells you something different, go with it!

Only pain relief I had was gas and air (despite begging for an epidural with my last and being refused nine times - it was a long active labour ).

personally - and it was just my experience - I found the changes in the location and intensity of the pain helpful, as it flagged that things were progressing and happening which calmed me. Sending you best wishes for a good labour and delivery when it happens. Smile

All mine were home births where I stayed very active throughout the labour walking/bouncing on birthing ball etc. DD1 was born in water in birthing pool. Being in the water was great as the warmth of the water gave pain relief and floating just feels so much nicer!

With DS1&2 I wasn’t allowed to birth in water (big babies) I laboured in the water for a bit but for giving birth I was kneeling with my arms/head resting on a birthing ball....this worked really well as I was up right (gravity really helps) but yet had something soft to lean on would definitely recommend it. Also the natural birthing company stuff is great....lots of videos on you tube which I found really helpful.

Good luck!

Have
But read the thread thru, so apologies if pp had already said this but ...I get the rage when I watch that programme.
If it's not a section then it seems to show every woman is in bed in her back.
One labour is was sat up and bearing down as it were
Second labour I was on my knees leaning over
