To be fed up with co-workers

I'm older than most of my co-workers and I get so annoyed at them spending a lot of the day standing around chatting out the back while I'm out front doing the work. One of whom is the supervisor. I love my job but get so frustrated walking past, working while they stand there chatting!! Am I just old and boring? I'm there to do a job is the way I see it. I join in with a bit of chat sometimes but most of it is just pointless gossip. I was feeling fine there but realising my life is so different to their's. One of them who is the laziest I know doesn't like working with me and I don't like working with her. She is leaving soon though so I can suck that up. It just pees me off having to keep my mouth shut and carry on working while they do bugger all. They've been there longer than me so I don't feel it's my place to complain to management, plus it would make work life awful if I spoke up. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes I'm in a very similar situation. Some of the young ones have a very poor attitude.

As a 19 year old myself who works in a challenging environment full time I’ve noticed that a few of my older colleagues lag in effort in comparison to me. Please don’t think it’s all of us younger ones who take the Micky! Definitely not old & borng, It’s so unbelievably frustrating when it seems like your colleagues aren’t pulling their weight, my way of dealing with it is to make light hearted humourous comments about cracking on with the workload comes before gossiping! Hope your situation improves one the one in particular leaves :)

There are a couple younger ones who do brilliant so I know it's not just younger ones who don't pull their weight. Its just frustrating that some people pretty much get paid to stand around chatting while others do the work of 2 or 3 people. I have been tempted to make some comments but I don't think they would see the funny side haha

I think this happens in most workplaces and spans age groups.
Every office I’ve worked in has had the few people who work hard (doing the work of 2-3 people, as you say) and carry the whole bloody department, then there’s the lazy sods who think they’re getting paid just to physically show up at the place.

Properly pissed me off too OP, and I never found a real solution to it - I just went self-employed instead Grin
I suspect a lot of people who feel like this eventually find a way to work for themselves.
