I’m hoping for reassurance that this will eventually go! Severe headache and body aches (with occasional sensation of hot needles being stuck in me for variation) dry cough and sore rib muscles as a result. I’ve had it for three days now. Feeling sorry for myself as I’m on my own with a boisterous and demanding two year old (who thankfully does not have it too) if you’ve had it, how long did it last please?

Yup. Exactly this.
Figure it’s just from being indoors all Christmas, central heating on, everyone passing each other’s bugs around.

Get outside for fresh air it makes it temporarily better I’m finding.

Fartymcnarty · 05/01/2019 18:13

I’ve had it since New Year’s Eve!! Constant watery nose dribble too!! Yesterday was my worst day and today I’m starting to feel better. Was too weak to even manage a shower yesterday!

flumpybear · 05/01/2019 18:15

Yep - also dealing with the final stages of whooping cough to boot 😔
Feel like shit a d coughing so hard it hurts my head and makes me wee a bit too 😱

GobblersKnob · 05/01/2019 18:16

Yup, I've had it since the 14th of December. Much better than it was, but keeps coming back. It's grim

silvercuckoo · 05/01/2019 18:19

Yes, also bad night sweats after a couple of days, had it just before Christmas. Almost everyone in the office had it too.
I had a test done, it was Influenza A. Surprising as I had a vaccination earlier, but it seems it did not cover the strain that goes around.

Pontingss · 05/01/2019 18:23

Sorry to hear you’ve all been suffering. @silvercuckoo that’s interesting, I wondered if it was flu but I had flu twenty years ago and I was completely out of it for a week and couldn’t get up, whereas I can at least walk around. Perhaps different flu strains are more severe?

OP posts:
Thewifipasswordis · 05/01/2019 18:24

Yeah it's called a cold Hmm

Pontingss · 05/01/2019 18:27

@Thewifipasswordis I’ve had dozens of colds in my life and know what they feel like but thanks so much for your helpful advice Hmm

Im on week 3 of sinusitis and the head pain is as bad as it was at the beginning.. absolutely fed up beyond belief

SlowNorris · 05/01/2019 18:27

I’m in week 5 of a painful cough that has left my back and chest so sore it hurts to breathe. Also have the sneezing, runny nose, blocked head and aching muscles.

The only thing that eases my symptoms is a hot bath, maybe give that a go?

jessstan2 · 05/01/2019 18:31

You poor thing. In another couple of days you'll feel better but you won't be fit and well for a while.

I sympathise with you.

Flowers and drink lots of cold water.

Utini · 05/01/2019 18:32

Even the same flu strain can vary massively from mild illness, to very severe. In fact, most flu infections are asymptomatic.

I think also your general health at the moment matters, and other conditions could make it feel worse. Last time when I had tooth pain, flu and my period at the same time, I wrote a will (seriously). Grin

Pontingss · 05/01/2019 18:46

Hearing about everyone else’s sickness is making me feel better, I think an essential part of being ill is being able to moan about it to someone other than a toddler who is providing zero sympathy Grin

That’s really interesting about the flu virus, I had no idea!

My sisters have both had it, more than a cold but not quite flu with aches and runny nose and a horrible cough, It's really hung around and they've both been really under the weather.

I hope you feel better soon. Flowers

Boilingboilingrage · 05/01/2019 19:42

Everyone I know has had it in some form. It last for-bloody-ever (3.5 weeks for me) and makes you feel like total shite. Hope you shake it off soon.

Buttercupsandaisies · 05/01/2019 19:49

Yep everyone has had it - week 4 for me - some days worse than others

user1471453601 · 05/01/2019 20:03

What ever we've had in our house has been a sodding bugger. DD,48, has had antibiotics twice in her life. And the grand total of two days sicknesses in her working life. She became ill on 18th december, was prescribed antibiotics and an inhaler after xmas. She was due back to work on Wednesday, but has taken the rest of this week off.

Her patrner, also on antibiotics, has had a sinus infection so bad she couldn't lift her head and looks like she has two black eyes.

I'm on my third lot of antibiotics and second lot of steroids.I

Get well soon to all of you

Flappyjack · 02/04/2019 16:48

I had this virus at the end of January. Two weeks off sick and reduced hours for four weeks 😱.

The DR's now think it might be Menieres disease because of the dizziness which is still ongoing. Anybody else had this virus for so long?

I am now praying it is a virus not a debilitating disease as it all started with the same symptoms shared on this thread. Sore teeth, sinuses, dizziness, stabbing head pains and pins and needles.

It is god-awful.

It wouldn't surprise me if it is lingering because I am useless at looking after myself and resting.

Flowers for everyone who has had it.

DonPablo · 02/04/2019 16:51

Yes, I've just come down with it. Thanks to ds's parents evening. 52% of his year was off on the day and they all came in for parents evening. In a hot stuffy and packed hall with the heating blasting. Every teacher shook every parents hands. Now something like 70% of them are off..

If I hadn't had the flu jab I'd swear it was flu like. I've barely been able to move today, my wrists ache and is it possible for my skin to ache? Well yes it is.

Flappyjack · 02/04/2019 17:30

Wow - that's a massively high absence Don. Though not surprising with all those handshakes.

I am most definitely having the flu jab next year. I've never been so I'll for so long. I've tried complete bed rest, gentle exercise, cut out coffee (v. Hard) and lots of vitamin c and nothing works.

My mother and sister seem to have had a mild version of it too.

BeanBag7 · 02/04/2019 17:31

@DonPablo you can still get flu after having the jab. They vaccinate you against the most prevalent/ likely strains of flu but not all strains. This is part of the reason why you have to be vaccinated each year as it's different strains each time.

Processedpea · 02/04/2019 17:31

Does this also include violent sneezing as I have this too

DonPablo · 02/04/2019 17:34

Yeah, it is high. Its causing havoc actually because the staff are also getting it. My ds said assembly was awful, just a cacophony of coughing to the point where no one could be heard above it.

I know I can still get flu. I'm just hoping it's not and fooling myself. It obviously isn't flu because I can type here and I have just thrown some spaghetti in a pan. But its damn close!

TheHobbitMum · 02/04/2019 17:34

Yep, I have it too. Its not quite flu but definitely more than cold. The burning, achey joints are very similar to when my RA flares up. It can sod off!
