Weepingsong - it's not just us then! Both fighting for the business and searching for paracetamol Grin

"I don't remember 24 hour pharmacies when I was younger either, it wasn't a "thing". "

They definitely were. It depends on how old you are, but people would call the doctor out, because Walk-in Centers weren't very good when they first started.

Up until two years ago they were dotted around. They'd usually be the ones dispensing methodone etc as well, but that system has changed, as well.

BunsOfAnarchy · 05/01/2019 09:16

Theres a couple late night pharmacies within a 5 mile radius.
One by my hospital is open till 2am (i think)
In my local 24 hour supermarkets the pharmacies are open till 10pm.

WeepingSong · 05/01/2019 09:16

Like I said before there is as far as I know only one 24 hour pharmacy in England:

www.nhs.uk/Services/pharmacies/Overview/DefaultView.aspx?id=7613

I think it featured in a BBC Documentary about London a year or so ago. There used to be one in Bristol, but that now seems to shut at 10.30pm.

There are a few thousand 100 hour pharmacies in England and these will be open late, but usually close between 10pm and midnight - and re/open at 6am-ish.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 05/01/2019 09:18

I've just tried the NHS link for a pharmacy 'open now' and it's nonsense.

The first one is telling me it's open; but when I click on opening times, it's telling me it's closed on Sundays.

BiscuitDrama · 05/01/2019 09:21

It’s Saturday today.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 05/01/2019 09:26

OMG. It's Saturday! 😳😳😳😳😳

Sorry, it's not nonsense. 😳😳😳😳

But the OP's original point still stands

There are no 24 hour pharmacies near me and most aren't open on Sundays.

WeepingSong · 05/01/2019 09:32

Unless you are in London you won’t find a 24 hour pharmacy - they do not exist.

mustdrinkwaternotwine · 05/01/2019 09:38

We live in a good sized town yet are in a black hole for health care. GP
appt are nigh on impossible, no walk in centres, nearest A&E/labour ward is 40 mins away (part of my decision not to have a third child was I may not make it to hospital in time), one pharmacy is open until midnight, another one opens at 7am but inbetween it's a 70 mile round trip.
When we were sent home from the out of hours GP at 2am (having waited 3hrs for our 11pm appt) with a poorly toddler and a prescription for antibiotics and told you should start her on them immediately to save her being admitted in the morning, DH dropped DD and I at home, set off and got home an hour later. We thanked our lucky stars that we had the means to do that.

Caithhhh · 05/01/2019 09:40

I'd have to travel 2 hours just to get to one that opened after 6 according to nhs24 Grin but I live in the sticks! My doctors is a dispensing practice. So have to get an appointment for things I'd of previously just gone to an actual pharmacy about which can be a pain.

NaiceShoes · 05/01/2019 12:12

Pharmacies are businesses so if its not cost-effective of course they won't stay open 24/7. The government would need to pay them to be able to do so and also make enough of a profit for it to be worthwhile.

KonekoBasu · 05/01/2019 12:14

If your willing to travel then you can generally find something.

If you are able. Don't drive and can't afford a taxi? What can you do then?

Satsumaeater · 05/01/2019 12:15

Nacreous you are well prepared for a no deal Brexit!

Satsumaeater · 05/01/2019 12:16

The problem where I am isn't that they are not open but the pharmacist is either late or on lunch so you still can't get anything.

WeepingSong · 05/01/2019 12:29

Satsumaeater - if they are late then report to NHSE. A breach notice will focus the mind on getting to work on time.
Lunch is complicated - check NHS UK - if there is no lunch shown then a pharmacist should be available. If they aren’t then report.

Notquiteagandt · 05/01/2019 14:46

The boots local to me is pretty much 24/7 it has a little window you go to and they pass things through like a petrol station.

There is a llyods in the hospital I have never seen shut.

As well as a late night rota for the other pharmacies.

So dont think it is an issue here in semi rural suburbia.

OddBoots · 05/01/2019 14:52

Growing up the local paper used to have a list of which pharmacies were open overnight on which days as they were on a rota of some kind.
