If you enjoyed it as much as me and if there is more of it?

I love all these programmes!! I just love social history and seeing how people really lived (even if it is a bit contrived sometimes). I thought the Victorian bakers one was especially good as it gave context as to how social changes affected the industry. And who couldn't love the Robshaws? Lovely family!

SugarinaPlum · 05/01/2019 22:18

It’s only worth watching to see Rochelle’s face!

Sunnysidegold · 05/01/2019 22:32

Oh I loved the series with rochelle and co that I watched.so pleased to hear there are other similar programs to looks out for.

BackBoiler · 05/01/2019 22:34

I loved it! Also reminded me of those crispy noodle things

BikeRunSki · 05/01/2019 22:46

I live the “Back in Time...” serieses, but agree that BITFTea want as good as the original, but then they did 2 decades per episode rather than 1 decade.

The DC binge-watched BITFD one had term. Couldn’t really complain about that!

Havn’t seen the school one yet.

The Victorian House of Arts & Crafts is starting 9pm BBC2. Might be interesting.

Some of you might enjoy this if you missed it.

I've just binge watched back in time to the factory, so thank you very much for the heads up! Missed it the first time round.

RayRayBidet · 12/01/2019 20:06

The Victorian Farm and the Wartime Farm are also excellent.
Love Ruth Goodman.

Flyingfish2019 · 12/01/2019 20:08

I love Ruth Goodman too. She really brings history to live, doesn’t she?

I love these programs but I don’t think the Back in time for School is showing a particarly accurate depiction of schools!

I know they’re showing a range of experiences but I can’t imagine there would have been very many forest schools in the 20s/30s and afternoon naps would surely only be for infants and those in the open air schools. It came across rather like they were saying that schools were quite tough in 1918 but by the start of WW2, the kids were all having naps and off out building camps in the woods!

I don’t think they would have been measuring in centimetres either!

I know they probably won’t go there with corporal punishment, incredibly strict teachers, rote chanted learning and arbitrary punishments but in reality, that’s probably exactly what it was like for many.

Maybe they could have mentioned what RP
stood for as well-my DD asked if it stood for ‘really posh’!

I hate being moany though as I do really like this series! I just feel they should have said-most schools would have been like this, but actually there were a few x y z schools that did this...

RayRayBidet · 12/01/2019 21:20

@Flyingfish2019
She's awesome. I think it's really interesting when they have a go at making things. Brings it all to life. Also much more likely my ancestors were doing stuff like cooking and cleaning, farming etc than living in a posh house being waited on. All the ordinary lives lived and forgotten.
Ahem, getting a bit deep there! I love social history.
There is a great series on YouTube with Michael Wood showing the history of a village in the Midlands from the Norman Conquest to the present day. Fascinating and Michael Wood has a lovely voice!

Flyingfish2019 · 15/01/2019 14:32

Do you remember what that series was called?

OP posts:
RayRayBidet · 16/01/2019 23:07

@Flyingfish2019
It's called the story of England. If you put Michael Wood Story of England into the search bar on YouTube the whole thing is there

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 16/01/2019 23:21

I liked all of those .

Also, quite some years ago, was Turn Back Time , The High Street series From 1900 (I think) up until the 1990s . There was a spin off book I purchased of it. They filmed it in a market town in Somerset , changed somewhat for each decade .

Flyingfish2019 · 18/01/2019 17:16

Thanks!

Years ago there was one where they built a stone age/iron age village and sent people to live there. It must have been around 40 years ago because I seem to remember not being allowed to watch it. Anyone know what it was called, I would like to watch it.

APMom · 18/01/2019 18:08

I love all these, why didn’t they teach history in school the way they do in the programmes. There was also the one with Ruth et al helping at the medieval castle in France, brilliant.
