Old landlord has opened my post?!

I received an email from an old landlord (whom I thought I had blocked 😳) this morning about some post that had arrived at my old address-from an elderly aunt who got my address confused. I know this because the landlord has opened the letter and told me who it was from! We did not part on the best of terms-they turned nasty at the end of our tenancy and had to get a tenancy support association involved for a review which ruled on the tennants favour. Im not entirely sure how to respond to their email! They’ve opened my post! Also I don’t want to have any contact with this person or give them any forwarding address based on how nasty they behaved previously (lots of late night phone calls making various threats etc)

I wouldn't reply if I was you and just get in contact with your aunt explaining what happened and give your new address

Get your post forwarded by paying th roost office and update all your contacts?

He could quite reasonably believe it was his post if it came to his house and he didn’t check the envelope. Under those circumstances he was perfectly entitled to open it. Would you have preferred him to bin it?

Should say through the post office. You can buy a post forwarding service.

Just get a redirect set up at the post office.

How would he know what to do with it if no forwarding address? Perhaps he was trying to work out a return address?

HeresMe · 04/01/2019 12:51

Just before anyone pops in saying what he did was illegal, it is not illegal to open post delivered to your address even if not addressed to you, it is illegal to interfere with it whilst in the royal mail's possession.
