I feel like since having my DD I've completely lost my identity. I don't enjoy doing the majority of things I did before like hobbies, largely because I don't have the time. And when I do get time, that's just not what I feel like doing anymore. Things have changed I guess and I'm almost pining to enjoy things that no longer interest me.

Anyone else feel like this? What did you do about it?

And out of interest, what do you enjoy doing?

To be honest, not much! I like reading, but don't have masses of time to do it. I tend to just waste time pottering about on the internet, whilst wishing I was putting my time to better use...
Will be following this thread with interest.

@Sloppychops Reading is one of the things I miss and need to make time to do more again. I used to read before bed but go to bed at 10 nowadays Blush.

I read whilst on the toilet. I drink some wine after they're on bed. I eat some chocolate when they're not looking. That's all I can do right now for the next few years.

I feel like my main 'hobbies' now include reading MN and watching an episode of a tv show I like in the bath after the baby's in bed

I walk the dog and listen to audiobooks whilst doing this.
I make jewellery - beadweaving.
I go to the gym.
I go to the pub! Or catch up with friends at home over wine.

feelingverylazytoday · 04/01/2019 14:29

Swimming, walking (not actually a hobby, it's part of my role as a carer, but I enjoy it nonetheless), browsing on my tablet, playing a few games, listening to music.

When my children were small I lost the desire to do things I had enjoyed before. Now my favourite thing is travelling and going to gigs on my own. A friend dragged me to one and I remembered myself somehow, it was quite a deep experience to find myself again.
Joining a book group was a step in the right direction too - could you do that?

HiGunny · 04/01/2019 14:31

I was a bit like this after having my two DS. It took a few years to 'find' myself again. So now one night a week I sing in a choir and I also go running/to the gym a couple of mornings when my youngest is in nursery. During the day when I have a few mins spare I do crosswords or wordsearches instead of faffing about on my phone (though I still do some of that!)

crackerbaron · 04/01/2019 14:49

Thanks everyone, some interesting suggestions. I'm going to get back into exercising regularly and think that could be a good avenue to explore more ... classes etc.

It's good to know it takes a while to find yourself again but that it does all fall into place.

How old is your DD.

I felt like I lost my identity when I first had children.

I started running when my youngest was 2 and wish I had started earlier. I enjoy reading and am making an effort to read more.

YouTube is good for exercise/ HIIT video.

Keep meaning to start knitting too.

DitzyPrints · 04/01/2019 20:00

I love to read.
Go out with friends or with Dh just for few drinks locally, pub quizzes.
Going cinema (this is more rare!)
Not sure it’s a hobby but I love having coffee mornings and play dates with some other mum friends just a proper gossip.
Listening to podcasts.
I do have a gym membership but that’s been neglected lately!

NorthEndGal · 04/01/2019 20:03

I try and get to the beach every few days, for sea glass
I like to swim, hike, camp, bike, garden, ride, paint, bake, put up preserves, sew, explore , all sorts really
Not nearly enough time for alm the things I'd love to do

bookmum08 · 04/01/2019 20:08

It took me quite a while after I had my daughter before I could focus on 'being me' again - almost 8 years!
My main hobby is Lego. I take part in model shows and also like to go to collectors fairs and car boot sales.
I read a lot.
I also enjoy crafts. I like the sewing sets that Hobbycraft do aimed at kids because they are easy and relaxing.
I would like to do more walking.

I hear you op. My dc are all teens but I am still needed as chauffeur. But at least now I have a bit more time.

I had a day off today and things I did just for me were swim, run and have a long lunch with two lovely, funny friends.

Making time for friends is deffo a good thing to do. I also belong to a book club and have done that for a long time (only once a month, so more manageable).
