Its 12.15am 4th of January 2019. I have just begun the 1st moments of my 4th day smoke free. So far so good. Boiled sweets and will power. I do have an ecig with a sweet/ non nicotine oil in it but thats not been used the whole of the 3rd day.
Got a nasty rotten taste in my mouth from the junk I'm coughing up. Apparently thats normal. Gym tomorrow followed by swimming with my 11 year old son. He hates smoking. I guess thats y I'm trying again. 30 years of smoking has to stop sometime.
I do have a little trick thats helped. Its this.

I HAVEN'T GIVEN UP SMOKING. IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT FOR THIS MINUTE AND HOPEFULLY THE NEXT ONE I HAVEN'T LIT A CIGARETTE. I CANNOT PROMISE BEYOND THAT BUT I HAVE HOPE.

It got me through the 1st few days and a brief (4 beers) trip to the pub for my 46th birthday.

Good luck! I’m now 5 months smoke free although I’m currently 6 months pregnant and the smell makes me want to be sick! I guess I’ve had a little help with hormones for blessing me with that so was much easier going cold turkey. However, I’ve never lasted this long smoke free after a lot of failed attempts. Admittedly I’ve not smoked aslong as you (around 4 years)

The e cigarettes are useful though if you do have a moment of weakness and you can always reduce the amount of nicotine in the liquids. I did stop for 2 months using these but ran out of battery and then ended up smoking again! So remember to keep to the charger closer by if you do go down this route. A few friends have quit for good using these pens too.

Good luck & congrats to making this far especially cold turkey - you can do this!

I went cold turkey over 3 years ago and haven't looked back. Well done OP and keep up the good work

GrimDamnFanjo · 04/01/2019 00:52

Massive well done for what you've achieved so far. It's not easy !

You can do this!! Just make sure you don't start satisfying your mouth cravings with food. Drink water. Go for a walk. Put on music and dance around. Take a bath. Clean out a drawer. ANYTHING to distract you until the cravings go away. You should be immensely proud of yourself for taking this step.

Good luck!
I went cold turkey 21 years ago. Found it bloody hard as DH was still smoking and wouldn't quit with me.
Best thing I ever did.

You can do it!

Well. I did gym and swim. I wasn't great but 1 time in months is to blame rather than not smoking.
92 hours smoke free so far. Thank you all for your support. Tricky day tomorrow. I think I have the skills to get through.

OMG its the beginning of DAY 8. I cant believe that I'm into my SECOND WEEK as a cold turkey ex-smoker. Ive had some brilliant support. My 11 year old son has been an absolute rock even though hes took the brunt of my foul moods especially day 3 and 4. The positive messages from here have be gratefully received. I had 1 critical idiot down the local on Saturday because I was using my ecig in the pub he and his wife said i was faking it..... feck them (no nicotine in my ecig).

Congratulations!!! I quit cold turkey nearly 3 years ago and it is so liberating! However, you don't win any awards for willpower for quitting cold turkey. It doesn't matter how you quit as long as you stay quit. If you start to waiver and need quit smoking aids, get them. It's better to slap a pitch on than it is to stick a cigarette in your mouth.

Just remember, one day at a time (ODAT). Smile
