When do your children stop wearing Christmas themed clothes?

Just that really.

My two year old, three year old were both given dresses and jumpers on Christmas day and my newborn several Christmas themed baby grows. It just seems such a waste to put them away now Christmas has passed and obviously they won't fit them next year.

Or am I just being really tight? I will admit watching my children outgrow clothes that have hardly been worn is one thing that does bug me especially when they're clothes I love them in.

I'm from a background that recognised Twelfth Night / Epiphany, so January 6th is still Christmas, but also the end, iyswim.

So you could enjoy them up till Sunday night, in my world.

Imalittleelf · 03/01/2019 19:35

I have taken to trying to find the thing I like in bigger sizes...

I think if the clothes fit then it's a waste for them not to wear them Glitterball

Nearly · 03/01/2019 19:36

Whyyyyyy do people give Christmas themed presents for Christmas when it’s too late (really) to use them!

Rolyrosy · 03/01/2019 19:36

My 6 month old DD got Xmas pyjamas in her size but their a bit too big but I’m keeping them out and putting her in them until she grows out of them. Why not at that age 😂

I do think it’s pointless though buying Christmas themed clothes to give on the day

Jezzifishie · 03/01/2019 19:37

My DD is 4, so she likes to choose her own clothes. We keep the Christmas clothes in her wardrobe, so they make an appearance all year round Xmas Grin. If we kept them until next year, she'd have grown out of them anyway.

MillieMoodle · 03/01/2019 19:37

Two and three year old probably until 6th January. Newborn I'd say throughout the winter. DS2 was still wearing Christmas babygros in February when he was that little!

KatherinaMinola · 03/01/2019 19:39

January 6th, or a few days later if it's snowy.

suitcaseofdreams · 03/01/2019 19:42

Mine are 7 and wil wear their Xmas pjs all year round (until they are too small)
Xmas tops/other clothing etc only from 1st December until 12th night...

bluechameleon · 03/01/2019 19:44

Twelfth night here too. I put anything that might fit next year away with the Christmas decorations. But I agree with pps that I'd keep the newborn in them until they are outgrown.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 03/01/2019 19:44

Having three children helps... you get to pas them along!!

I also find these themed clothes rather wasteful but actually we were given some a few years ago, they have been worn lots (lots of growing room, I have small children) and I have passed them on!

I also dislike dressing up costumes.

Mine eldest is 14 BTW so you have a while to go yet!!

Ginger1982 · 03/01/2019 19:45

DS will wear his Christmas pjs until he outgrows them. Who's going to see? Bit gutted about the jumpers though!

Fruitbatdancer · 03/01/2019 19:46

My son is still putting his stocking out every night in ‘hope’ Grin let them wear
Then for as long as you/ they want!

SuzieAndBess · 03/01/2019 19:46

My sister has a real thing about not wearing Christmas clothes after the 25th. My newborn has a couple of luxurious sleepsuits so I’ll keep her in them as PJs.

Owwlie · 03/01/2019 19:47

I think this week for the older two (unless onesies/pyjamas, then it doesn't matter) and until they grow out of it for the baby. I saved some of DDs Christmas things to give to a friends baby and some of the things she got last year I passed onto the health visitor to give to someone. I'll probably do the same this year. I'd usually keep things she's outgrown to wear to just potter around the house in or get messy in but it seems such a waste when Christmas clothes get hardly worn. I don't understand why people give them as presents.

Nnnnnineteen · 03/01/2019 19:48

Pls- until they no longer fit. Other clothes, hand on or charity shop after Christmas.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 03/01/2019 19:50

I’ve never thought of anyone giving Christmas clothes for Christmas it’s usually the run up, that seems a bit of a waste for a week or so.

CherryPavlova · 03/01/2019 19:52

The official end of Christmastide is Candlemas on 2nd February. I guess you could drag it out that long. That said, mine were never put into fancy dress for Christmas and wouldn’t wear Christmas specific clothes now.

PJs, as mentioned will never be noticed so wear until they grow out of them or they fall apart.

ShadyLady53 · 03/01/2019 19:52

How Christmas Themed are they? If it’s santas and reindeers, ho ho ho etc then until the 6th January (although could you keep the clothing for the younger children to grow into?). If it’s snowflakes, penguins, fairisle etc then I think you can wear them throughout the winter months...surely things like that are more “cold” themed than “christmas” themed.

bookmum08 · 03/01/2019 19:55

Send a note to whoever sent them
"thanks for the clothes, they are lovely. The children say they would love some next year too but ask if they could get them as a special treat on December 1st because they want to be able to wear them at all the Christmasy events we do in December - the carol concert, school xmas jumper day, the xmas fair, visiting Santa and all that. December is such a wonderful busy Christmasy month and the outfits would of been perfect for them to wear"

DragginBallsEEEE · 03/01/2019 20:04

I really don't get why people give xmas themed clothes to be opened on xmas day, it defeats the purpose!

SIL bought DD a xmas jumper and little booties when DD was 3months old at xmas, bought in 0-3 month size......just why even waste your money??

Parttimewasteoftime · 03/01/2019 20:25

My DS is in his Grinch pjs now he loves them will let him wear until the too small and pass on. Have always tried to do buy more winter themed than Santa 🎅 but they kids let them wear it.

Ivygarden · 03/01/2019 20:28

I feel gutted when my children receive these kind of presents. My SIL hinted that she had bought my DC Xmas jumpers so I was really rude as actually asked if they could have them early to wear on Xmas jumper day. She didn’t mind at all and actually said that it was a bit silly to give them Xmas clothes on Xmas day (by which point that are practically out of date, for want of a better phrase). Sell them on local Facebook group in the run up to xmas next year.

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 03/01/2019 20:31

Umprompted my dc 29,26+24 arrived wearing Xmas items over the festive period!!

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 03/01/2019 20:31

I would keep the babygrows around until baby grows out of them, just wouldn’t wear them out (so use as PJs). Older kids in pjs till they grow out of them but anything else I would put away for the younger children/sell next November.
My DS got a lovely Christmas jumper for his birthday in November and only wore it twice. I really don’t understand why people buy Christmas clothes as gifts, it’s such a waste. Although it was a lovely jumper, a lovely normal jumper would have been much more useful (though obviously we were grateful and I have put it away for DC2).

OneStepSideways · 03/01/2019 20:32

If they have reindeer/Santa/Xmas trees/snowmen/robbins or other festive things on I think they look silly after the 25th!

My DD wears fairisyle knits/alpine jumpers through January but anything overtly Christmassy goes in storage for next year or passed on to family if outgrown.

I think wearing Xmas clothes after Xmas day looks like you ran out of clean clothes!

We don't buy many Xmas themed clothes though, it seems wasteful to get something that's only worn for a few weeks.
