I have one but no idea what to do with it. My friend used to get films via kodi on it but as it's not legal then I've not used it for about a year. What else can I do with it? Do I need to subscribe to anything? I don't watch much tv and have Sky although thinking of cancelling as need to get costs down.

I subscribe to Amazon Prime and Netflix (well worth the money imho).

If you don't want to pay out you can get all the free stuff eg ITV Hub, All4 etc so you can watch stuff on demand.

It basically turns your TV into a smart TV. So most online streaming services for video and some music. That includes free catch up TV and netflix, prime etc. Although if you have sky, you probably have the catch up already. I wouldn't bother with a fire stick if I didn't have prime and/or netflix

Second what pp says, you can watch bbc iPlayer and all the tv apps also prime and Netflix if you have subscription. They have taken YouTube app off now but you can access from the browser. For the price it's worth the money.

It turns your TV into a smart TV though I imagine most people now have smart tvs. Everyone I know who has one uses it for Kodi

PerverseConverse · 03/01/2019 17:39

What exactly is Netflix? Is it just films?

You can put apps on it like ITV player, YouTube, Spotify and BBC iPlayer, or watch lots of free Amazon stuff.

Kodi itself it's illegal, but people configure it to access dodgy sites for illegal content.

The Fire Stick is such a small device, it's highly portable and you could even take it on holiday with you (if you were desperate enough to need access to some TV shows).

Just for clarity, it uses your internet connection to access and play media (it's not using any satellite, or digital TV airwaves etc).

Netflix is films and TV series. You can Google to get an idea of the variety on there

We have two firesticks. They are excellent. It meant that when we needed to replace our TV last year we saved money by not buying a smart TV. It is great for catch-up TV, Amazon Prime and YouTube. We have taken out firestick on holiday so we could access Amazon Prime films whilst we were away.

Thanks. I'll have another look at it later and see what happens.
