Friend is not back at work (in school) until Monday.
I am at work. She's gone on a day out with other friends and all kids.

She's just sent me a text asking if I'm nice and warm in my office cos they're cold where they are.

No consideration that I might actually like to be with them, and that my son is at a childminder.

Or maybe I'm being touchy.

Your being touchy

Whisky2014 · 03/01/2019 12:35

Touchy. She's trying to make you feel better because she's aware you are missing out.

catgirl1976 · 03/01/2019 12:35

Very touchy. Nice she was thinking of you. YABU and reading too much into it

Hisnamesblaine · 03/01/2019 12:35

Random text. But yes your being touchy

MsSquiz · 03/01/2019 12:35

I would reply saying how lovely and warm it is and that you're enjoying a coffee and the peace & quiet

Schmoop · 03/01/2019 12:36

It does sound like a bit of an insensitive text. Could just be trying to soften the blow of your situation by finding a positive. Or could be just rubbing it in your face. You know better than us what type of friend she is

Thingsdogetbetter · 03/01/2019 12:36

Very touchy. Sounds like a joke to me!!

ErickBroch · 03/01/2019 12:36

YABVU. She is clearly trying to make you feel better about it. Jesus

Are people really this petty?

YABU OP

CripsSandwiches · 03/01/2019 12:37

I think it was a joke that misfired, she was probably letting you know they missed you and you were on her mind.

Servernotslave · 03/01/2019 12:38

It’s highly annoying but you can’t let her know without sounding bitter.
Shame she didn’t take your son along, in my friendship group we’d have taken your son if you couldn’t come because of work. But next time you’re invited you could say “ thanks for invite, I can’t come because I’m working but if I pay for ds please could he tag along and I’ll ask the childminder to collect him when you’re ready? No worries if not or there’s no space in car though”

TheOrigFV45 · 03/01/2019 12:38

OK, thanks.

I feel I miss out quite a bit, but I'll keep in mind that people aren't really aware of that - we all lead our own lives.

There are very many lone parents working full time, I just don't seem to have that many in my network of friends.
