To panic & put my hand down the toilet

FitBit strap has become loose lately, every time ive take it off for a shower lately it's unclipped at the "clock face" first, before allowing me to u do the strap, with it nearly falling off and hitting the floor each time. Keep giving mental notes to order new strap, but due to DD1 and newborn DD2 I keep forgetting.

Due to DD1 and DD2 both being asleep when I escaped to the bathroom for a much needed shower, I had a wee, but didn't flush as didn't want to wake up the DDs (maybe a completely different AIBU thread there !!!)

Turned on shower , took off Fitbit, and strap unclipped and Fitbit fell down the toilet, onto my wee, and wet tissue . Vom.

I panicked and thrust my hand down there to salvage the fit bit , .. I could have got some gloves first.

Panicked again and put it under the running shower to wash off the wee... Quoting in my head what I remembered from the instructions saying it was splash proof not water proof (I've worn it out running in the rain before, but not in the bath IYSWIM)

WWYD?

Goodness, it's only a bit of wee. Wash it and yourself thoroughly, dry it out in some rice and try to calm down.

1forAll74 · 03/01/2019 12:00

For goodness sake, this is really a non issue, these things probably happen a lot in toilets !! Are you one of those Mothers, who wears her Marigolds to change a baby's nappy,!

WH1SPERS · 03/01/2019 12:00

Are you sure you are doing it right, Generation ? Wink

percypeppers · 03/01/2019 12:01

I don't think you are going to die....

steff13 · 03/01/2019 12:02

It's just urine, I'd maybe wipe it with a disinfectant wipes.

Actually, I always close the lid when I'm done.

babysharkah · 03/01/2019 12:05

I dont get it its only a bit of wee? The fit bit is probably knackered though.

StillMedusa · 03/01/2019 12:08

Ha yesterday I had to kneel down and get my arm round the u bend to unblock our upstairs loo, after DS1 (who has autism) blocked it with tissue..and poo. I tried marigolds but the water was higher so just had to go for it. It was grim! But the I just gave my arm a good scrub and no harm done.

BTW they do nice fitbit replacement bands on amazon!

lazymum99 · 03/01/2019 12:10

I shoved my hand in the toilet at work when i dropped my phone in it. Its not going to kill you. Although I suggest you wash your hands. The fit bits probably broken tho.

InsomniacAnonymous · 03/01/2019 12:13

Surely this is so mundane it doesn't merit any more thought, let alone a thread on MN. Confused

Urine is sterile! You can drink it! grow up.

thecatneuterer · 03/01/2019 12:19

I'd have closed the lid to the toilet after using it, regardless of whether flushed or not. Maybe put something like toilet roll on top to remind me to flush later. Why on earth did you leave the lid open?

A bonkers reply to a bonkers thread Grin. Seriously, what???

strawberrisc · 03/01/2019 12:19

It doesn’t matter what we would do. You’ve already done it.

shineyshell · 03/01/2019 12:21

Btw when rubber gloves are too short for the job put your hand inside a black bag/binliner keeps your hand dry and you can pull out what's blocked into the bag for binningSmile😷

TheOrigFV45 · 03/01/2019 12:26

A friend of mine dropped her gels down the portaloo just before a marathon. Anyone who has used a portaloo before a big race knows the state they are in with people have pre-race nerves!

She needed those gels. She got those gels. Now THAT'S desperation!

My first ever iPhone (a good 8 years ago now) took a dive down the toilet (fell out my back pocket as I was standing up after going for a wee) my hand was down the toilet so fast to fish it out I didn’t even consider the yuck factor. The phone did die in the end and could not be saved from it’s watery death. I was pretty devastated at the time but lesson learned not to have expensive electrinic gadgets near the toilet where they could fall in.

SushiMonster · 03/01/2019 12:33

A bit of wee on your hand won't hurt you. It isn't that gross is it really? You hand is a washable thing.

The fitbit isn't waterproof, however I have showered accidentally many times and it has been fine, and also done a few lengths in the swimming pool once. Still alive.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 03/01/2019 12:35

Really confused. It's just a bit of wee. Wash if off... job done. Stick some anti-bac on it if you're still worried.

Steamedbadger · 03/01/2019 12:38

Maybe don't eat the rice afterwards

viccat · 03/01/2019 12:41

Why would the sound the toilet being flushed wake up your kids but the sound of the shower being on didn't? Doesn't make any sense...

TinselandToblerones · 03/01/2019 12:47

The toilet in my en suite back on to the wall where my child’s head is. The shower is on another wall about 2m from the adjoining wall.

The loo makes a lot more noise in the babies’ room than the shower does. It’s not that an odd idea.

Losingthechubrub · 03/01/2019 12:52

What Fitbit do you have? Some are waterproof - mine is but it's only a basic one without a fancy display. I swim with it on every day, so it's probably had very well diluted wee on it several times

starcrossedseahorse · 03/01/2019 12:53

Is there such a thing as a wee troll?

starzig · 03/01/2019 12:56

Just rinse it and dry. That should be enough to get tid of wee and vomit. I have accidentally worn it in the bath and it was fine.

Steamedbadger · 03/01/2019 12:56

This would never have happened if you just has a wee in the shower
