To ask how long it will take to lose 4 stone?

I am very overweight at over 16.5 stone and 5 foot 4. This is my year to get fit and healthy and address my issues relating to food and compulsive eating. I am planning to eat sensibly and exercise daily. Nothing extreme. Any idea how long it will take? I have no idea at all! I currently hugely over eat and do zero exercise. Thanks in advance!

You could prob do it in just over 6 months if you lost 2lbs a week. Losing weight slowly will mean you’re more likely to keep it off.

I lost 4.5 stone in 9 months I tried not to diet becuase i was breastfeeding. I just ate healthy and walked when I could i also sent to a zumba class once a week. When dc started eating I began introducing fast days. A friend of mine lost loads on slimming world but i find it too confusing.

I was 16.5 two years ago and now just over 11 stone through low carbing and sensible portions

I started slimming world in October, my goal is still quite far away but Ive lost 2st 9lbs in 11 weeks but I've had to be extremely committed to it.

I lost 4 stone in 7 months by changing my eating habits and tracking calories on my fitbit. I also did couch to 5k.

I lost 2 1/2 stone in 5 months on Team RH, and I’ve kept it off. Highly recommend it, no faddy diet it’s based on sensible eating and exercise. Completely sustainable.

I lost 4 stone last year between early jan and May with SW. I’ve kept it off apart from 6lb I’ve put on over Christmas 😬

I lost 4 stone in 4/5 months. I lost about 3lb a week, 7 in the first week (Slimming World).

I lost 4 stone in about 8 months with Weight Watchers. I’d say the longer it takes to lose it the better as you are giving your self to readjust your approach to eating. A crash diet and huge, fast weight loss doesn’t really reach you anything and you are more likely to go back to your old ways. Just concentrate on being healthy and the weight loss will come x

I dropped a stone and a half in 6 weeks. I ate oats-so-simple for breakfast, supermarket sushi and fruit for lunch, and a sensible dinner. No snacks. I also ditched diet soda. I can't prove it, but I am of the opinion that diet drinks impact your body in a way that inhibits weight loss.

After the stone and a half, I found the loss plateaued and eventually stopped. To lose more, I needed to do more exercise, but lost motivation.

If the weight loss is for looking better, you need to do exercise too, or you'll lose it in ways that don't give you the shape you may want. But, it needn't be lengthy gym sessions or hours running. After seeing a couple of bit on TV, I'm now adding Yoga and that 5-minute ultra intense work out thing (squats, star jumps, jogging on spot - each at full whack for 60-90 seconds).

My top tips are
Only eat food you like
... and stop eating it as soon as you are not positively relishing every mouthful

Thanks so much everyone for all the great tips, encouragment and personal stories. I plan to just move a lot more (I do nothing at present), so my aim is 7k steps a day, building up to 10k. I am planning to do no sugar in the week (will still eat fruit, I just mean nothing with added sugar) and eat balanced meals with lots of veg and then allow myself a treat on fri and sat evening but one thing not binge eating. Hopefully I will see some good changes. I just want to keep it simple and sustainable. Thanks again everyone.
